E Coosh EEWA: The way it is Power School is a helpful tool fo r your child’s success B y Selena Boise Management Successor So, with school starting, do you ever wonder how your kids are doing? Well, I used to won der until I registered for Power School. I no longer have to won der and take their word on it because I can log in V and access their cur Spilyay rent grade for each Speaks class and see their \______ 2 attendance for the whole day. You have to get set up for it through the school. You can find information about it at their website, which is, jcsd.kl2.or.us. There is a link on there that helps you to register. It will give you information where to register at the school also, or you can go to the school and register. Once you are registered and you log in, you will immediately see your student’s attendance for this week and last week, show ing any absences or tardiness. And when you send in a note because they were sick, or had a doctors appointment, you will also see that it was excused or not. You will see their class sched ule and their current grade for each class. When you click on their current grade it will open a new window showing all as signments for that class. So you will see what they have completed and what they need to complete for the class. Now, that comes in handy because, if they are failing, there is still a chance for them to catch up because you can print o u t the list of assignments. Sometimes you want to com municate with the teacher and you can send them an email, because on their schedule the teachers’ names are listed with the class subject. Each name listed is a link to their direct email address, so you can send an email to ask what it is you can do to help your child get a passing grade. Maybe you want to just im prove their passing grade and you want the teach ers input. Many teachers are willing to help and listen. But I think that monitoring what your child is and isn’t doing in school helps your child to understand that their education is important to you. It further helps them un derstand that it is important to them as well. I think that Power School is a good idea and it has helped me to help my kids in the past, and I still use it to check on their grades, and any missing assign ments they might have. I’m sure it will help you too. Page 4 Spilyay Tymoo Letters to the Editor - "^¡TfgrTTiiiiiiniiiMnHiiiBnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimriiiminiiiiinnnniiiiiinniiwMiMMMiim^MiMmMMim........................ A thank you I apologize in submitting this letter a little late but we did not forget those involved in the search along the Deschutes dur ing the Labor Day weekend for my nephew atwai Eligio Santos. This tragic accident brought many dedicated family, friends and professional people to help in the search. I want to let the people know atwai Eligio had many brothers who would have done anything to bring their brother back be sides what they endured on the river. The family and I are so proud o f them and my son Loren Denny who also from day one whole-heartedly did what he could to help. It was Wasco County Search and Rescue who came through for the family, after more than two days o f searching. The family thanks very much Wilson, Charlotte, Geraldine and Lucille for being on the river at the right moment. How they m anaged that only the Lord knows. They eased much pain in that moment with their com forting presence and songs. Much love goes out to my brother Albert and Brenda who lost their son that weekend and many prayers go out to you to ease your pain. Yours truly, G ary and Ju an ita V illa, and fam ily. Good deeds A child watches every move an adult makes or how we treat people and verbalize with an other human being. I truly want to thank Fire and Safety for all the good deeds they have done for my family and I. Many people don’t want to see all the great things they do for our Elders and other people. Living across this group for the past 17 years, I can truly be proud to say thanks for all you did for us. I know that you always shov eled our snow or pushed us out o f our driveway when the snow and snowplow dumped a lot of snow and blocked our driveway. When I couldn’t lift heavy things you were here for me. Being a senior and moving in I had no one offer to help lift all my furniture and heavy boxes, but you helped when I asked (except for the Priesthood from my church). I have “three choice spirits” that spent many hours with me and my four-, three-, and two- year-old great grandchildren adored all the works at Fire and Safety. You always took the time to take my great grandchildren and play Frisbee with them. D.J. had to go over everyday talking a mile with you and you always took him, Reigh and Sign putting them on the fire truck and putting the uniform on them. Can you imagine what a thrill this was for them? They ate, drank and talked about you from morning till night. All their toys we bought had to be fire trucks with sirens or ambulances with the sirens. T hey had a yellow jacket, boots, red fire hat that they had to put on when you drove out with thp fire truck and would run to the fence to wave at you when you went out. • He had a different color coat, hat and boots that he would run in and put on when you went in the ambulance waving at you. We had to keep these outfits by the door. They all loved hearing you testing the sirens and horns; they thought that was meant only for them. Thanks for making three wonderful choice spirits happy and lotting kids. What a thrill living here and kn o w in g such g reat people (grandsons, granddaughters, son-in-law and friends). I will truly miss seeing you and yelling “good morning” or “hello” like we both do every day. But know you will always be in my heart and I will always love you. That is why I baked a lot to give you, thanking you for all you did for us. May our heav enly Father be with you always. Sincerely, Shirley A. Smith every day and helped with many hours of work, baking and shop ping by using her vehicle for all we had to do. M any days and late hours were put into the fundraising. Getting the signs and deco rations done took manv hours; three months of hard work was put into all we had to get done. A lot of love went into ev erything we had to do for our Elders day. Thanks to all the people that cam e by and purchased bur meals and baked goods. You made it possible for us to ac complish our goal. Without you we wouldn’t have reached our goal. Thanks a million—you will be blessed for this. Sincerely, Shirley A. Smith Newsletter Hi. This is Pengie, aka Floyd Tewee Jr. I would like to make some apologies, first and fore most to Amos, I am sorry I let you down. I let my weakness for alcohol get ahold of me. To Les and Perthina, you two have been there for me quite a few times when I felt extremely miserable, and yet now here I am yet once again, locked up. Because of my alcohol addiction. There have been so many times that I felt totally worthless and quite un worthy to visit you, because of my alcoholism. I know I have this addiction, but not strong enough by m yself to kick the habit, being in jail for so many months doesn’t help because you’re incarcerated with guys that aren’t ready to straighten their lives up. I am ready now, with the tribes help in getting into a long-term alcohol treatment program. I will go. I also would like to apologize to some other people on the reservation, but I have no idea who they are. I don’t like not knowing what hap pened the day before, the black outs. It is a scary situation for yourself and for others. I am an alcoholic. Alcohol is no excuse but the consumptive use can be extremely regretful. My life has been in and out of I’d like to know if any of you from Warm Springs would like to subscribe to our newsletter. We are now publishing. The cost will be $3 per year. The money we earn will go to cover the cost in getting the ink and paper to continue in keeping our news letter going. If you are inter ested, please send the money to Peter B., apt. 18, 50 Kourt Dr., Eugene, OR 97404. It is a very nice new sletter. T hank you. Evette Patt, 50 Kourt Dr., apt. 3, Eugene, OR 97404. Ph.
