This is a non-league contest and will be an OSAA Founda tion Endowment Game. $ 3,987 No passes will be accepted and cost will be $3 for K-12 stu dents and $4 for adults. Fifty percent o f the profit will go to the OSAA Foundation; the other 50 percent will pay for expenses. The Oregon School Activities A sso ciatio n (O SAA) w as founded in 1918 by administra tors from 36 O regon H igh Schools who wanted to coordi nate and regulate high school interscholastic competition. Today the OSAA is a private, non-profit association com prised o f 287 m em ber high schools representing nearly 200 Oregon cities and communities. The OSAA Foundation exists through tax-free contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations and Endowment Game revenue. The tribes are offering lim ited numbers of big game hunt ing access permits to each prop erty7 for 2006. Big game permits are divided equally between tribal members and the general public. The Pine Creek conservation area is located near Fossil on the lower John Day River. The Forrest and Oxbow con servation areas are located on the M id d le Fork Jo h n D ay River, north o f John Day and on the m ainstem Jo h n D ay River east of Prairie City. To apply, mail in a legible ph o to co p y o f yo u r trib al ID. Tribal members will need a ceded area tag to hunt. Specify w hich season and game unit you are applying to hunt (you may apply for one deer and one elk hunt). Non- tribal members may apply by m ailing a photocopy o f their purchased tag. Party applicants: Party appli cations are lim ited to three people per party. Parties are entered once in the drawing and w ill not be divided. Extra permits: Permits unclaimed in the lottery will be available first- come, first-served basis. 88 Chevy Custom Van Timber projects gain approval The R esource M anage m en t I n te r d is c ip lin a r y Team (R M ID T ) re c e n tly approved a decision docu ment for the 2007 W inter- green Tim ber Sale and ad ditional projects gained ap proval through the categori cal exclusion (Cat-X) pro cess. The projects include sal vage lo g g in g o p eratio n s, ro ad im p ro v e m e n ts and construction o f a new m e dia center. RMIDT unani mously passed a resolution to approve the W in tergreen Timber Sale. The project had already been released for tribal mem ber comment and after a 30- day review it was approved with some changes made to the original assessment’s miti gation measures. The Wintergreen sale will target a harvest volume of nearly 43 million board feet. The project area is approxi m ately 4,000 acres in size. $ 1,998 Maps and assessments of the project are available through the Forestrv j Branch office. Projects approved under the Cat-X process in recent weeks include a proposal to build a new media center just north of Highway 26 and the campus along Route 3. The media center would house offices for S p ilyay Tymoo and KWSO. The project had already gained the support of Land Use Committee and will go before Tribal Council as soon as the final site plan is com pleted. RMIDT recently ap proved Cat-Xs for improve ment to the B-160 Road and construction of a dry shed at Agency Longhouse. Earlier they approved categorical ex clusions for salvage logging in the Southgate Timber Sale area and reconstruct an infil tratio n g a lle ry in S h itik e Creek for irrigating fields at the Community Wellness Cen ter. ¡HI ajsgBHwaglll Young people at Camp Sap-Si-Kwat, held at Elmer Quinn Park, wear their anti- methamphetamine t-shirts. The shirts were provided by the Warm Springs Meth Task Force. The shirts are emblazoned with the phrase “Only Skull Guys Use Meth” as a prevention message. Post office joins special celebration To celebrate the U.S. Postal S erv ice’s release o f the new American Motorcycles postage stamps, the Warm Springs Post O ffice w ill be o fferin g the stamps for sale along with a spe cial collectible postmark from 9 a.m. until noon on Sunday, Au gust 20. Postal customers will be able to purchase the stamps and af fix them to cards or envelopes in order to obtain the collect ible postmark, one of 19 being offering at post offices across Oregon and Southwest Washing ton on August 20. The Warm Springs post o f fice is located at 2128 Warm Springs Road. The pictorial postmark fea tures a stylized motorcycle and commemorates the “Hot A u gust R ide” m otorcycle event being hosted by postal employ ees in Bend the same day. Postal employees and their families will participate in the Bend rally, which is not open to the public. For customers who wish to collect all 19 postmarks, they are available by mail. C ustom ers should sim ply mail envelopes or cards with cu rren t first-c lass p o stage stamps applied inside a larger envelope to the following ad dress at the post offices and zip codes listed below: Motorcycle Postmark, c/o Postmaster, P.O. Box 9998, (city, state and zip code). The postmarked cards and envelopes will be returned via regular mail. Plateau conference planned at W SU The 2006 Plateau C onfer ence, “The Paltius: Honoring A People and Their Land,” will be held on the campus of Wash ington State University. The conference will be held at the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum, October 4-6. This conference will inform participants about the traditional cultures of the Plateau and pay tribute to the individuals who have preserved these traditions. This year the conference will have a special focus on the Paltius. The conference will provide opportunities to explore how the tribes are working to preserve their cultural traditions and the natural resources of their lands. Tribal elders, leaders, students along with researchers, educa tors, and other professionals and interested community members will participate in listening and sharing sessions that address his torical and contemporary issues that have, and continue to ef fect, the status of tribes. The conference w ill also ad dress the w ork that is being done to preserve the language, culture, history, and cultural and natural resources o f the Plateau peoples. The “Call for Participation” deadline has been extended to September 15.
