E Coosh EEWA: The W3y it is How many o f you can’t wait to get back to school? I am un decided about that because I took a sum m er break, w hich was Spilyay enjoyable and relax Speaks ing. V_________J Time to get back to that commute to Bend twice a week. It’s always nice to sched ule classes on the same days; it makes it easier on gas, especially since the gas prices have gone up. They continue to rise I have heard. I guess the getting ready for school is hard only when you have to prepare your kids for it. They have to have their sup plies, new clothes, shoes, and backpacks. But a lot of the kids were able to work for the summer, which is always nice because then they aren’t hanging around get ting bored. When they get bored they look for ways to entertain themselves. Sometimes that can be good, but then sometimes that can be bad. I think that the summer work program for the kids is a good thing, because it gives them a sense of responsibility for finan cial things that parents usually handle. There are only three more weekends before school starts too, so these young adults have three w eekends to go som e place, maybe hit the last few powwows of the summer, or there is always state fair. Hopefully, all the kids will be ready in the sense that they will be listening, taking their notes, and understanding all the con cepts being taught. There are many students that get lost be cause they don’t have the confi dence to raise their hand and ask for help. It’s a hard thing to do, especially after trying once or twice and not getting help. W hen I was a freshman, I had my hand up for almost half the class hour needing help for my lab project. I didn’t receive help, I failed my project, and I lost all confidence in the thought of help. I hope all parents or guard ians encourage their kids to ask for help. If they aren’t getting help, keep asking anyway. One of my kids would give up, but now finds help in fellow students who do understand the concepts. So all kids should be prepared for class, take notes, ask ques tions and have good attendance. That’s something we should all work at to have a good year. Be nice to your teachers be cause they sometimes have large classrooms, but keep communi cating with them. To our family and friends: It’s been six months since our wedding (January 13) and we would like to give everyone an update. We are doing great and ad justing well to married life. Our little family is coming together very well. We haven’t had an opportu nity to give thanks to everyone who helped us prepare for our wedding, so we would like to send out a very special thank you to everyone who helped us out. We would like to thank all the drummers and the bell ringer who helped us; Pat Teneawasha for conducting the services; Doug and Louella Jackson and Susan Guering for the food and decorations; my mother Hilda Culpus for all of her contribu tions; Irvin Paul for making the rings for us; Norma Switzler for stepping in and helping out where we needed help; and my two brothers Doug and Dane Jackson for walking me down the aisle and giving me away— that meant so much to me and I felt honored for them to do it. We would also like to send a b ig th an k you to m y sister Marella Sam and her family for doing the cooking. The food was great considering there wasn’t much to go around. It seems like Marella and her family are always w illing and ready to jump in and give a hand any place they are needed— many thanks to such a wonder ful family. We would also like to send a very, very, extra-big thank you to m y A untie E liza B row n- Jim — if it weren’t for her help ing to calm me down during the time of getting ready I think I would have gone a little bit crazy. I love you, Auntie Eliza, you are so wonderful and so special. We would also like to give a big thanks to Sam Starr for blessing us and covering us with a P endleton blanket, and to Chuck Schmit for the wonder ful p resen t he gave to us. Thanks, Chuck, you’re the great est. You know what it was that you gave us. We had a wonder ful time. A nd to m y co u sin B rad Donahue: a great big thanks for all his help— thanks for always being there when we needed you. We love you very much. We know that we may have forgotten someone so please forgive us, as we do truly thank everyone that helped us out (big or small) in our preparation for the wedding. We would also like to thank everyone for the wonderful gifts that we received— they were great. Trust yourself To my friends and relatives: Hello, I thought I would drop some lines to let some of you know where I’ve been and how I’ve been doing—I’d have to say incarcerated and incapacitated because of poor choices by me and others. I’m learning that all a person has in this world is the same thing that we are born with and die with: ourselves— really the only person we can trust and depend on. I’m sorry if I sound so down, but recently I have had some doors slammed in my face and now a bridge burned behind me v > a part of my life that was the most precious to me. So with that, all I can do is pick up the pieces and start anew, right? To my friends and relatives: I’m sorry for alienating myself from you, but at the tim e I thought it was for a better pur pose and to please another that ended up all for not. A mistake. I’ll not do it again. I’ll never give that type of power over me to anyone ever again. A dog is a dog, a pig is a pig no matter the gender, and you can’t change it, so maybe I should have studied the seren ity prayer a little closer, huh? I don’t know how long I’ll be here, but by the way our legal system is treating me here, it looks like a long time. I thought I put this type of thing behind me but apparently not. It’s really sad that no mat ter how m uch good I have done, I still can’t catch a break (forsaken is the word, I believe). Others who have done as m uch the sam e— or even worse— are let off lighdy com pared to me. I thought they just fixed the legal system here, but just not for everyone, huh? Well, I hope this doesn’t come back to bite me too badly, so please keep your eyes and ears open. I guess that’s enough for now, so go o d b ye and if anyone wishes to write please send it to: KVC Jr. c/o WSPD P.O. Box C, Suite 138, Warm Springs, OR 97761, or set up a visit— no friends turned away. Sincerely, K eith Y. Positive mind What’s up Warm Springs? I’m doing okay I have 10 months left; I get out May 10, 2007. I hope some of you young kids can learn from my mistakes. Then I would feel better know ing that being in prison wasn’t for nothing. This place is a place no one should ever have to come to. Losing some of the things that mean the most to me was the price I had to pay for my stu pidity?. The one good thing that I’m getting from this place is a posi tive mind. I want my family and friends to know I miss you a lot. Write me if you’re bored and want something to do. Well I send my love and respects to the Rez.
