Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the meeting at 7. The meeting agenda is open. Spilyay Tymoo The new bead shop, the Wild Rye Bead Gallery, has opened at the Warm Springs Plaza. Brigette Whipple, anthro pologist with tribal Cultural Re sources, is the proprietor. She has hired Brenda Scott as an employee at the shop, and is looking to hire one more per son. The shop has beads, tradi tional art and craft supplies such as buckskins, and basketry sup plies. There are also shell items and jewelry. Customers can also place orders for items such as beaded bags. In the future the Wild Rye shop is going to have beadwork classes, and may host classes joindy with Quilts & More, op erated by Eraina Palmer, located two doors down from the bead shop. The hours o f operation o f the Wild Rye Bead Gallery are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Whipple said the name “Wild Rye” is a transla tion o f the word “Seekseequa.” The bead gallery is a welcome addition to the Plaza, said Sandra Danzuka, office man ager o f Warm Springs Ventures, which manages the Plaza prop erty. The Plaza, she said, is an ideal place for retail business. The situation could improve even more when the computer cen ter and coffee shop open in the vacant area that used to house Events calendar Meth 101, an introduction to the prevention of methamphetamine abuse, is scheduled for Tues day, Feb. 28 at the Simnasho Longhouse. The event, which includes dinner, is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Meth 101 is presented by the Community Health Educa tion Team. For more information call 553-3462. The award-winning film The Business of Fancy Dancing will be shown at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 17, at the Rodriguez Annex by the Jefferson County Library in Madras. The movie is based upon the Sherman Alexie book of poetry of the same name. The Thirty-Fourth Annual E-Peh-Tes Champion ship War Dances will be held March 10-12 at the Pi- Nee-Waus Community Center in Lapwai, Idaho. Between 1977 and 1990, be ginning journalism students from Madras Ju n io r High School interviewed nearly 80 elder citizens from Jefferson County and published the infor mation in their school newspa per, The Junior Buff. Among the interview subjects are deceased Warm Springs tribal members Andrew David, E llen Squiem phen, Lucinda Smith, and Caroline Tohet. The subjects o f the inter views provided eyewitness ac counts o f Jefferson County his tory ranging from the 1890s to the 1970s. In cooperation with local art ists, George Klos Recording Studio and Russ Sch u ltz’ Treehouse Photographic Studio, reproductions o f the interviews on compact disc, along with transcripts o f each interview and black-and-white photos from the original student inter views are now available as the “Voices o f Experience” series. The full, “Voices o f Experi ences” Heritage Package, includ ing a CD featuring one interview subject, its transcript and pho tos is available for $25.
