The National Park Service
traveling exhibition "Corps of
Discovery lT: 2(M) Years to the

time in Oregon this month. It
will visit Rix Oregon sites - in

it leaves the state next spring.
The central feature of Corps

expedition journals and more.
Programs reflect a spectrum of
nature, culture and history top

explorer camp complete with a
25-foot dugout canoe,
"Corps of Discovery II" is a
joint effort of federal and state
agencies, private and nonprofit
organizations, and American
Indian tribes. The National Park
Service provides major funding,
exhibit design and production,
transportation, and support
staff through the Lewis and
Clark National Historic Trail,
based in Omaha, Neb.
"Corps II" appears in Warm
Springs April 22-25 of next
year.
Members comment on
Wintergreen timber sale
By Bill Rhoadca
for the Spilyay Tymoo
An interdisciplinary team
from the I'brestry and Natural
Resources branches has been
collecting tribal member com
ments on a timber sale being
proposed for 2007. Responses
to a number of comments and
concerns arc included with this
article.
The Wintergreen 2007 Tim
ber Sale will target approximately
38.2 million board feet of tim
ber in the upper Warm Springs
River watershed. The harvest
approximates the annual allow
able cut (recalculated every five
years) for this planning unit,
which is based on long-term
sustainability.
The process for planning this
sale officially began on July 13
when the project interdiscipli
nary team (1'IDT) completed its
second and final scoping meet
ing with the tribal public. Meet
ings were held for Agency,
Seekseequa and Simnasho dis
tricts, inidating the process to
complete a draft plan.
A slide show and maps were
used to identify potential treat
ment areas, which were de
scribed by project leader Matt
Jimenez and other members of
the technical staff. A field re
view of the proposed project
area, and other recent projects,
was conducted during the annual
Timber Tour on August 17.

Extension 'On the Road' again
By Fata Currim
Extension Agriculture Agent
OSU Extension on Wednes
day, Nov. 2, will be visiting the
Simnasho Longhouse to present
a series of activities for the
whole family.
This is a continuation of the
program that made its rounds
last year. The program was a
success, so we decided to con
tinue it this year as well.
The evening will begin at 6
p.m. with dinner and proceed
with classes that will start at 7
p.m. The topics will range from
shopping and budgeting tips
from the Home Economics
agent, to kids' activities from the
4-1 1 program, live horse care tips
from the Agriculture agent, and
a fall planting activity from the
Master Gardeners of Warm
Springs.
There is something for every
one to participate in, so come
and spend the evening with us.
There will be similar pro
grams planned at the Agency
Longhouse in January, and at the
Seekseequa Fire Station in
March. For more information,
please contact the Extension
office at 553-3238.
