Representing the Con federated Tribes of Warm Springs at the meeting were Council Chairman Ron Suppah, Paiute Chief Joe Moses, Warm Springs Chief Delvis Heath, and Councilman Reuben Henry. McCain told the delegation that he intends to proceed with legislation putting new restric tions on tribal casinos. He told the tribal officials that he wants stricter financial oversight of tribal casinos. McCain said he wants to keep tribes from building new off reservation casinos in urban ar eas. I Iowevcr, he said it is too early to say whether legislation on tribal gambling, which he has not yet formally introduced, would affect the Cascade Locks plan, which has the support of Gov. Ted Kulongoski, the com munity of Cascade Locks, and Hood River County. Show features stories by students By Brian Mortenaen Spilyay Tymoo "When I was looking for some one to turn me back into a human later, I saw a bouse that said, 'Books for sale.'" Rick Suppah methodically read the last lines of his Hallow-een-themed story into the mi crophone, yet with a conviction knowing that his story was go ing to be on the radio later in the week. Suppah, a third-grader, was one of 10 Warm Springs El ementary School students picked to read stories they wrote for broadcast on KWSO radio. Sue Matters and Will "The Wilman" Robbins recorded the students at the school Monday afternoon. "The kids were very ex cited," said Dawn Smith, school principal. " walked in and I asked the owner, 'Dojou have any books that can turn me back into a human?' Yes, I looked all night long and fi nally found it. " The stories are being broad cast as part of Matters' and Robbins "Morning Routine" show' weekday mornings on KWSO, and on the "Homefire" program, which features local musicians, songs and spoken 1111 cz- Brian MortensenSpilyay Kandace Hoptowit, a student at Warm Springs Elementary School, reads her story, "Why I Like School," for KWSO personality Will "The Wilman" Robbins Monday. "Our goal is to recognize some of the great work kids do, and to show how capably they can write," KWSO station man ager Sue Matters said. "In broadcasting their readings, it's like publishing their work, and we'll encourage them to write more."
