It happened midway through her round on the second day of the all Indian tournament, one of several she participates in during the summerfall season. Chase was having a tough round already when she reached the par-three hole. "I was frustrated already, so I thought, just go for the pin, and so I did, and I hit the ball," she said. ' The seventh hole at the three- Golf tournament benefits museum The Museum At Warm Springs Annual Benefit Golf Tournament is September 24. The benefit golf tournament, and annual chili contest, will be held at the Kah-Nce-Ta High Desert Resort and Casino Golf Course. There will be four people per team; or individuals can sign up and be paired off. It is a scramble tournament with a shot gun start at 9 a.m. There will be team prizes for net and gross October tourney to draw top golfers Some of the best golfers in the northwest will be at Kah-Nee-Ta Golf Course for the Northwest Indian Invitational Golf Tournament Oct. 8-9. The tournament, hosted by the Kah-Nce-Ta Golf Associa tion, begins with a 9 a.m. tee time Sat., Oct. 8, and continues with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Sun., Oct. 9. Awards follow the con clusion of the tournament. Saturday's events include a "horse race" at 3 p.m., and din ner is served at Kah-Nee-Ta at 7 p.m. A practice round is avail able on Fri., Oct. 7. "You have to make sure you get it over to the green, because if it's lost there, scores, chip and putt contest, individual prizes for KP's, LP's, longest drive, and many other golf prizes. The cost is $300 per team of four, or $75 per individual player. Registration includes green fees, two carts per team, lunch, and a special gift of a museum print per golfer. All cart operators must have a drivers license to drive the golf cart. Chili connoisseurs have an opportunity to show their stuff The field is broken up into four, possibly five, divisions, in cluding the championship flight, first flight, seniors flight, and ladies flight. A super-seniors flight may be included and is based on the available field. There is a $135 entry fee, which includes tourney fees, green fees for Saturday and Sunday, tee prizes, and dinner on Saturday. The entry fee in creases to $150 after Sept. 26. Side bets are offered, and cart reservations and tee times for the practice round are avail able by calling 553-1112 or in the Junie B. Jones stories. The thing she likes most about school, said Kiya, is her teacher. Her parents art Kevin and Rene Rodin. "I saw it land, and I tried to watch and see where it was go ing to stop, because I knew it was going towards the pin. It went high and then came down, and I was watching where it hit," she said. "And, I thought, 'All right,' I'm closest to the pin." She thought that if she didn't place in the tournament, she could at least recoup some of her entry fee money. "I figured side-bets would be the only way I'd get my money back," she said. "I was thinking, 'If I could get a KP' (closcst-to-pin), that would be great."' But she couldn't find her ball after it touched down. "All of a sudden it disap peared," she said. "I didn't know at the museum's annual chili contest, held in conjunction with the golf tourney. It is open to the public. The museum is seeking do nations of prizes for the tour nament. She then ran down to the green, crossing the road, and looked at the green, and more importandy, the cup. "She yelled back, 'It's in there! It's in there!" she said. "It was kind of shocking." She played the hole differ ently from the way she had it the day before. "I had tried a different club, and I pulled and hit it too far. I didn't even hit the green." Circling Raven, though, was Chase's favorite course even be fore Aug. 21. "I've played it pretty much since it opened," she said. "This year alone I've played there three times." Chase won $240 on that hole alone, which made up for not placing in the tournament. She was given the pot for "deuces," where players contrib ute $5.
