Along with Madras High wrestler and Warm Springs tribal member Blaine Begay, Moody is headed to Australia for a youth sports meet, through Down Under Sports Specialities, Inc. She leaves July 2 and re turns 1 3 days later. The Down Under Track and Field meet is two days long, but Moody said she will have the rest of the time to see such places in Australia as Sydney and the Golden Beach. "It's gonna be really fun," she said. "And then we'll go to Hawaii for three days." Moody anticipates attending college in the fall, which may include track and field. "I want to go somewhere that has a good art program, and Japanese. I want to be a Japa nese art animator," she said. "That's my dream." Moody received about 30 letters of interest from differ ent schools, but she said she has talked with Division I Portland State, and also with Clackamas Community Col lege. . "That'd be kind of good to go there and find out what college is like, and then trans fer to a four-year university," she said. "I'd like to go to one of those two because they're close to home "If I don't like it, I can just go somewhere far." Living in Simnasho, Moody starts every day by catching the school bus at 6:45 a.m. "After practice, I get home at 7 or 8 (p.m.)," she said. Even though her long bus rides to school will end in the next few weeks, Moody said she isn't quite ready for them to be over. "No, because I'm scared. I'm going to miss track and high school," she said with a smile. Man charged after infant found smothered A man charged with killing his infant daughtef by rolling over her while he was intoxicated Sat urday night appeared in a Mon tana courtroom Monday. Anthony Gonzales, 31, was charged with negligent homicide and appeared in Justice Court in Great Falls, Mont, after wit nesses discovered him lying on top of the baby, Angelika Lame Bear, while sleeping in bed Sat urday night. Officers on the scene at tempted to resuscitate the infant but were unsuccessful. Gonzales, who is six feet tall arid about 230 pounds, allegedly bleV!a".30 blood-alcohol level when police aclministered a por table breath test at the scene. Gonzales appeared in court via a monitor while in custody at the Cascade County regional jail in Great Falls Monday. A hearing is set for June 10. Bail was set at $150,000, consider ing Gonzales's past criminal his tory and violent record, which includes two years in an Oregon prison for assault with a danger ous weapon, a felony. The baby's mother, Deanna Lame Bear, was in jail at the time of the incident on an un related charge. The infant, Angelika Lame Bear, was in a backboard-style carrier at the time of her death, according to court documents. The maximum penalty for negligent homicide is a 20-year prison sentence or a fine of up to $50,000 or both. Ag on the Road continues The Oregon State University Extension Service at Warm Springs' Ag on the Road Series continues with a trip to Desert Rose Quarterhorses, a breeding and training operation in Wapinitia Sat., June 4. Participating youth and their parents meet at the Edu cation Building in Warm Springs at 9 a.m. The trip includes a visit with co-owner Jeanne Capps and co-owner and trainer Jenelle Arzino as they talk about horse breeding for conformation, ability, and dis position, with hands-on demonstrations. Kah-Nee-Ta: orientation has useful advice (Continued from page 1) They go to the museum, the clinic, Power Enterprises and the mill, the Plaza, the longhouscs, the area around the resort and Village, and so forth. An important part of the ori entation is the discussion among the employees of the mission of the resort and casino, and how the employees help carry out the mission. In an introduction to the ori entation Kah-Nee-Ta general manager Garland Brunoe ex plains that the average guest at the resort and casino spends about $560 a day. If the guest is a couple, then the amount doubles. And guests usually stay for two days. That is a large amount of money, over $2,000. And to keep people coming back, the resort has to provide a world-class customer experi ence, said Brunoc. The orientation provides some useful advice on how to accomplish die goals of the re sort. The advice applies to ev eryone in the organization, be cause at some point everyone has some contact with the guests.
