Spilyqy Tymoo, Wqrro Springs, Oregon September 16, 2004- Liana Tom plans for national Hi, everyone, my name is Liana Turn and 1 am the daughter ofl.ee and Cheryl 'loin of Warm Springs. On my paternal side my grandfa ther is the late Elmer Tom Sr. of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Rondo. My grandmother is the late Christine Wcwa Tom of the Con federated Tribes of Warm Springs. On my maternal side my grand mother is Flora Swain Simmons of the Southern Paiute Tribe of Moapa, Nevada. My grandfather is the late Ross Simmons from the Choctaw Nation in Talahena, Okla homa. I grew up on the Warm Springs Reservation and attended elemen tary school there. I graduated from Madras High School in 2002 and am presently attending Central Ari zona College in Casa Grande, Ari zona, to pursue my degree in el ementary education. 1 will be competing in the Na tional Miss Indian Rodeo Pageant in Soboba, California during the In dian National Rodeo Finals. It is with great pleasure that I will be representing the Western States Indian Rodeo Association as their Queen. ,u well as representing my family, tribe and culture. From the legacies of my grandpa Elmer, my grandpa's Jazzy & Bull and from my dad, brother and many more extended relatives I was born and raised into the rodeo way of life. I have competed in rodeos since 1 could walk; I have been to many rodeo finals including the high school nationals and the Indian National Finals. I have won many awards including saddles, buckles and ribbons. My rodeo queen endeavours began when I was se- Horse vaccinations offered There will be West Nile vaccination clinics later this month at the Warm Springs and Simnasho roilco grounds. The clinics will be on Saturday, Sept. 25. At the Warm Springs rodeo grounds the clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. At the Simnasho rodeo grounds the clinic will be from 1 to 3 p.m. If your horse has not been vacci nated for West Nile before, the animal will need an initial shot by the vet, cost of $20, and a booster in three weeks ($15), which the vet will give you to take home. Oregon officials confirm first human case of West Nile virus (AP) - Oregon's first confirmed human case of West Nile virus has been found in a teenage boy, health officials said last Friday. The boy probably was exposed to the disease last month when bitten by an infected mosquito, said Dr. Mel Kohn, the state epidemiologist. Kohn declined to identify the teen ager, who went to an emergency room for his symptoms but was never hospi talized. He has since recovered. Kohn warned that the disease could be more severe next summer.
