Spilyay Tyrooo, Warm Springs, Oregon Howlak Tichum Emil S. Johnson Emil S. Johnson passed away March 7. He was 44. The cause of death was a car accident. , Mr. Johnson was born Sep tember 28, 1959, in Warm Springs to parents Cyril Pe ter Johnson and Marceline Charley. Richard Louis Crane Richard Louis Crane passed away February 25. He was 26. Mr. Crane was born January 6, 1978, to parents Douglas Crane and Clarice Smith Crane. Mr. Crane was a fire fighter Lillian Maynard Lillian Maynard was born to Tine and Rose freeman) Frank on April 17, 1932. She lived at the Old Camp on the outskirts of Burns until the late 1950s, when her mother passed away. She then went to live with her aunt Bernice Teeman at New Camp. Lillian moved to Califor nia to attend business school and then returned to Burns in the late 1960s. Throughout her life, Lillian served her people. In 1948, at 16 years of age, she became the youngest person to serve on a committee for the Burns Paiute Tribe. Later, Lillian was instrumen tal in the successful land resto ration, of 771 acres, for the Paiute Tribe. During her lifetime, she served the tribe as a coun cilwoman, law clerk, and sat on several committees, enrollment, culture, law and order, and hous ing She continued to speak on Ivy Elizabeth Matter Hilty Ivy Elizabeth Matter Hilty of "Madras died Feb. 29. She was 94. Ms. Hilty worked in Warm Springs as Home Economics Extension Agent. Ms. Hilty was born July 23, 1909 near Hooker, Okla., to Emil and Hedwig Matter. He is survived by his parents, Doug Crane of Lapwai; and Clarice of Warm Springs. He is also survived by sons Rich Winfield Danzuka-Crane, and Syrus James Crane, both of behalf of the elders. Also, she worked for the Chamber of Commerce of Burns and served as a member of the Commission on Indian Services between 1997-2001. Lillian had a great love for the land and spoke for the pro tection of the Steens Mountain area and the tribal allotments as well as the preservation of the traditional use areas of the Paiute people. She was a strong supporter of the development of govern Optima, Okla., and graduated from Panhandle A&M College in 1937. She married Arthur Hilty in 1940. Mrs. Hilty taught home eco nomics in Oklahoma for several years. Although 80 percent of on reservation "heads of hous ing units" have been counted, this is the minimum count needed in order to challenge the U.S. Census. If you are the head of a housing unit, it is very impor tant for future funding of the reservation that you now con tact Vital Stats. Some of the problems be ing encountered are: No. 1. People who have changed their names in the last several years are showing up in the Vital Stats system dif ferently then individuals are reporting. For instance, Jolene E. At this time the Tribal Cen sus Team is asking community members of Warm Springs to come forward as a "Second ary Source" on behalf of fam ily and friends on the Un counted List. This list will be updated and posted at the post office, ad ministration building, Indian Health Services and e-mailed out to all tribal employees for the next two weeks. Even if you know very little informa tion, you can complete a form for a friend, family member or neighbor that is on the "Un counted List."
