Buffalo girls off to a good start
The Madras Buff girls beat
visiting Estacada, 56-35, on Fri
day night Jan. 16, in a Tri-Valley
league game.
Tara Prow scored 18 points,
and Susan Ahern added 15, as
the two girls accounted for 33
of the 56 points seared by Ma
dras Madras was never in any se
rious trouble during the game,
playing some tough defense,
causing turnovers then fast
breaking to score several lay-up
shots. The Buffs committed 25
fouls during the game, but on
the other hand they went to the
foul line and were 12 out of 16.
Jaylyn Suppah had a good
game and added seven points
for the Buffs. Maurica Cortez
also had a good defensive game,
but got into foul trouble late in
the second half.
Raylene Ike-Thomas got in a
lot of playing time. She did not
score but did a good job on de
fense. Carina Miller saw action dur
ing the game. Amanda Cary of
Estacada was the only one to
make a three point shot, None
for Madras. Earlier the White
Buffalo girls traveled to La Salle
and came away with the win, the
first league game of the season
for both teams. The visiting
Buffs held off La Salle to come
away with their first league win,
50-42.
Madras boys win close game against LaSalle
In a Tri-Valley league game
the Madras White Buffalo boys
basketball team topped the vis
iting Falcons of La Salle by the
score 63-61 in a close, well
played game.
The game was a good excit
ing game, as the lead changed
heads several time in the first
half. The two teams were quite
evenly matched height-wise, and
both teams showed a lot of
spark and hustle. Quickness was
the key factor as the guards cut
and dashed around on the floor.
At the half La Salle led by
the score of 34-26, and looked
like they might have the game
sewed up. In the third quarter
the Buffaloes put together a
good run to take the lead, and
never trailed the rest of the
game. They held a ten point lead
at the end of three quarters,
with the Buffaloes 52, the Fal
cons 42. In the final period La
Salle started to pop in three
pointers to close the gap, and in
the final minute they missed a
couple of three-point attempts.
The Buffs held on to come out
with the win. Scoring for Ma
dras: Dominique Easterling
topped all scorers with 23 joints
before fouling out in the final
period. Tim Kirsh added 12
points, Joey McConnell 9,
Kevin Hernandez 8, Ivan
Alonzo 4, Pat Boyle 3, Isaiah
Tewee 2, and Vaughn Prow 2.
