Signed Dec. 29, Judge Lola Sohappy,, Warm Springs Tribal Court. Hope and dream To my people of Warm Springs and all nations, The loss of my daughter, Cindy Lou Brightstar Sohappy (Gilbert) has been a tragedy for my children and myself. My daughter was a young girl who had her hopes and dreams for her future. She had the courage, strength and perseverance for her edu cation. She was in high school and had only three credits to go. She was determined to gradu ate with her class, so she worked very hard to reach her grade point level. With her determina tion and desires she had reached beyond her goals and needed only three credits to graduate. She was a junior at the Chemawa Indian School. She told me that sha wanted to go back to Madras High School her senior year, rejoin the ROTC program and graduate with her friends from home -Warm Springs and Madras. She also wanted to do so many things with her life. She had a vision and a goal to travel and go places like Hawaii, Paris, Germany, Alaska, Canada, New York, the U.S. Capital Building, many other places. She knew and loved God since she was a child, and even now as she is sleeping. Her joy, laughter, love and strength are missed greatly by many others, even adults. She loved people and never was afraid to share her friendship, hope, encouragement, joy and laughter. Now the message I am send ing to all my people and all na tions is this: Alcohol is a disease and with this are many paths that lead to destruction. My daughter had given her self to AANA. She relapsed, which took her life. She recog nized she needed help, so she went and signed herself into an 'AANA program. Also, she. signed herself into individual counseling. I have told my daughter I was proud of her for reaching out for help. Being a single mom for a long time had been difficult at times, My children and I, we had each other. This is a burning desire for myself and my daughters, and more so for my people of all nations, for the youth, young children, middle aged, elders who struggle with an addiction. My desire is to begin a plan for an ranch for alcohol and drug dependency. Also, a rescue shelter for families, single people, homeless people in need of help. In order to have my desire become a reality I would need land, approval from my tribal leaders, workers from many dif ferent nations of people who work in the field of AANA. There would be domesticated animals such as horses, goats, chickens, turkeys, etc. So my desire is to honor my daughter by reaching out to oth ers who need support, recovery, goals. fijr their livesL - ; f , i Please help make this burn ing desire become real. Cindy Sohappy Apology Thanks Warm Springs for helping make this year at Ralph's Furniture & TV the best year ever. Thank you, Edward & Donna Hagedorn 3 To the community of Warm Springs, I'd like to apologize for my actions of DUII and endanger ing. This happened back on the day of June 28, 2003. Once again, I'm sorry. Patricia Marie Kalama Write to the Spilyaj at P.O. Box 870, Warm Springs, OR 97741. r Auto Sales - Used Cars (Most Cars $3500 or Less) I.
