My mother is Rachcllc Bcttcga, daughter of Dcnise Gabriel (grand mother); great grandmother is Maxine George, daughter of Sophia Sidwaltcr-Georgc (great great grandmother). I am writing in regards to the adoption for enrollment. Lillie Mcanus and Clarence Meanus were my great great grandparents and both enrolled members of the Warm Springs tribes. In addition, Sophia Sidwaltcr-Gcorge was my great great grandmother. She was 44 Wasco and an enrolled mem ber of the Warm Springs Tribes. I am now 5 years old. I enjoy Michael Ray and Lewis Rachelle Bettega going to the park to play basket ball and ride my bike. I enjoy practicing writing, counting and adding numbers. I especially enjoy traveling to pow wows with my grandmother and grandfather, who help me learn more about my culture and tradi tional ways. I like going to the river with my uncles and grandfathers to fish. I also enjoy hunting with my grandfathers, These are only some of the spe cial things I get to learn and enjoy while I am a resident of the Warm Springs Tribes. In my being a resi dent of Warm Springs 1 have expe rienced a great deal of growth in preparing for the near future. In my becoming an enrolled member could help to further my opportunities in learning from ci ders about tradition and language. It could help mc pursue my edu cation to the fullest extent. In doing so, I plan on joining this coming year as a Grass dancer. I also plan to stay in school so I can carry on all the teachings to the next generations to come. Therefore, I will reach my goals one, becoming a successful young man representing the Warm Springs Tribes and two, becoming an asset to the Warm Springs Tribes. Our parents work in Warm Springs ' and they have purchased a home that we intended to live in and be to j gethcr for years to come. Our grandmother, Yvonne Arthur Tapcdo has lived on the reservation all of her life, as well as our great grandmother Geraldine Arthur. We spend as much of our time with our grandmother Yvonne as pos sible because she has shared a lot of sacred family history with all of us. Our grandmother Yvonne has taught us about our great-great grandparents McKinlev and lessie Arthur. They both belonged-he thc AMh. 1910 Shaker Churchl'MtKmle beUcfs ,;,, n4 was at one time a Shaker minister, spirituality of McKinley and Jessie were both ac tive in the Shaker Church for the majority of their lives. McKinley was also judge for the tribes. All of the children of McKinley and Jessie Arthur have passed on. They only have grandchildren left who are Yvonne Arthur-Tapedo who is 59 years old, Barbara Bobb who is 55 years old and Eugene Scott who is 59 years old. Our living elders are the follow ing: Emily Wahencka who is 82. She is well known for her beadwork and knowledge of In dian language. Harrison Davis is 73 and has worked all of his life. He is now retired from the For estry Department. Their other el der was Annie Anderson Tewee. Margaret Charley, age 78 is well known for her traditional foods, dried fish, deer meat and roots. She is one of the longest living mem bers of the 1910 Shaker Church. Her mother was Mary Anderson Peters. Our great-great grandpar ents, John "Lukh-pum" and Susan Polk-Anderson, were married in 1892. Susan's brother was Charles a. the tribes since we were infants. Soraya is our little sister and she's two years old. She enjoys spending time at ECE. She learns about her heritage and the lan guages of Warm Springs. She looks forward to going with her friends and teachers to dig roots, visit the, fish hatchery, visiting thc hot springs near Kah-Nec-Ta and at tending all of the mini powwows that occur throughout the ' school year. Damian goes to school at Warm Springs Elementary. He is in the third grade and he's nine years old. He is very thankful for the Language Program and their staff since he learns Ishiskin at school from Dallas Winishut and Arlita Rhoan. They come to visit his classroom and share their knowledge of the many traditions and language of Warm Springs. He likes wrestling, rollerblading, and playing soccer and marbles with his friends at school ... Carlos is in the fourth grade at Kadie Roae M anion Kadie Rose Manion, born Sept. II, 1989 in Madras to par- cms Eddie Manion and Kclli Muskopf, is seeking adoption for membership of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Indian Reservation. She is 12 years old and in the fifth grade at Wcstsidc Elementary School in Madras, where she is a member of the TAG program. Her hobbies include playing the flute, dance, playing basketball, comput ers, writing short stories and read ing. Kadie is 316 Wasco and a di rect descendent of the Brunoc fam ily. Her grandmother is Urban (Brunoc) Manion. Her great grand parents are Mary and Urbana Brunoc, both deceased lifelong resi dents of Warm Springs. Kadie's father Eddie is a tribal member. He lives and works in Warm Springs. Kadie's mother Kclli has lived and works in Warm Springs. Kadie's sister Mariana Manion attends Madras High and is also a tribal member. Kadie also has two uncles and three aunts, all born and raised in Warm Springs. Jim Manion and Doug Manion work for the tribe. Kadie with relatives and friends Kadie's great grandmother Mary Slater Brunoc, a Chippewa Indian and tribal member of thc Turtle Mountain Reservation in North Dakota, met Urban Brunoc, a full-blooded Wasco and tribal member of Warm Springs, while both were enrolled at Chcmawi Indian School in Salem, where Kadie's aunt Kim worked for many years. Kadie also has thrcfe great aunts and one uncle who were born and raised in Warm Springs. I ' 'f Paul Alex Martinez, Jr. V '?' ose Morales-LeClaire Hello my name is Jose Morales LeClaire and I'm Warm Springs, Paiute, Nez Perce and Umatilla descendant. I was born in Madras, Oregon and I'm eighteen years old. I have been living here in Warm Springs for approximately eight years. My mother is Lorna LeClaire (siblings: Marlon, Wallace, Tho mas, David and Regina LeClaire, Robert Williams, Johnson, Martha, Denise and Roberta Heath, and Richard Wolfe) and my brother is Louis Morales-LeClaire (also up for adoptions). My maternal grandparents are Louis LeClaire, Jr. (listed on the 1940 census) and the late Lenora Wilkinson. My great-grandparents are the late: Louis LeClaire, Sr, Delia Meanus, Cyrus Wilkinson and Margaret White. I have lived with Reggie Winishut and the late Beatrice Scott. I volunteer with the WS Salmon Corps (supervised by Roland Kalama, Jr.) helping in and around the commu nity with repairing fence line, chas ing cattlehorses out of commu nity and other community activi ties. Other activities such as the Horse Thief Memorial, WS and Celilo Honor Senior Day's and Lake Billy Chinook clean up. My parents, grandmother and numerous relatives have been teaching me the cultures, beliefs and spirituality of the tribes since I was born. I have learned a lot about my heritage and the languages of Warm Springs. I look forward to going with my friends and teach ers to dig roots, pick berries, visit ing the Fish Hatchery and the hot springs near Kah-Nee-Ta and at tending numerous cultural activi ties as often as possible through out the year.
