George was born March 22, 1936. He married Martha Culpus George in 1957. . , He was an employee at Warm Anna Phyllis Sanderville born Feb ruary 27, 1919 in Millsville, California passed away August 5, 2001 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age' of 82. She was preceded in death by her hus band of 47 years Rich ard Noble Sanderville, a Blackfeet Indian and a WWII Veteran. Phyllis and Noble met at Chemewa Indian School. Noble worked for the Bureau of Indian Nikki Nikki was a Warm Springs Tribal Member, she passed away August 25, 2001, in Ellensburg, Washington, cause of death heart failure, she was 29 winters. Nikki was born April 1, 1972, in Bend, Oregon to parents Terry Courtney, Jr. and Marcella Brunoe Hall. She attended Madras High School where she played volleyball for 4 years. She graduated in 1990, and that year was volleyball captain and chosen to the Greater Oregon League first team. Nikki's name ap peared in the high school "Who's Who, in 1988 for her academics. Howlak Tichum Richard George Springs Forest Products for many years and also worked as a skidder operator. He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac and Julia George, and his wife Martha George (Jan. 1993). Survivors are his daughters Brenda George, Jewels George, Anna Phyllis Sanderville Affairs and they lived on several Indian Reserva tions until he retired at the Warm Springs Reser vation. Anna Phyllis (Applegate) Sanderville was a member of the Klamath Tribe. She was raised on the Klamath Reservation and later lived there with her fam ily until termination. She was preceded in death by her brothers Budge Roff, Howard Roff, Joe Coburn, and sister Ardith Lee Courtney (Buttercup) Pendleton, Oregon where she played volleyball and was on the all league players team in 1992. In September, 2000, Nikki entered Montana Uni versity at Billings as a nursing stu dent. Nikki enjoyed beadwork, design ing and creating baby boards, quilt ing, elk hunting, salmon fishing, canning and drying, net making, learning her Wasco language and re ligious services, hiking, photography and camping. Survivors include: two daughters Fiona and Savannah Rose, one son Terrance Shoenick, her spouse Emerson Pickett of Crow Agency in Montana, Her parents, step-mother Cheryl Patterson-Courtney, grand Disability compensation and pension benefits You may be eligible for compen sation for injuries or illnesses you suffer as a result of active duty or for any you had before service that were made worse because of your active duty service. What is VA Disability Compen sation? Disability Compensation is a benefit paid to a veteran because of injuries or diseases that happened while on active duty or were made worse by active military service. The benefits are tax-free. How much docs VA pay for Dis ability Compensation? The basic benefits are based on how disabled you are. Your benefits may be in creased if: You have very severe disabilities to include loss of limbs. You have a spouse, children, or dependent parents. You have a seriously disabled spouse. l ' Disability compensation topics: Prisoners of War: Former prison ers of war who were incarcerated for at least 30 days are considered eli gible for disability compensation if they become at least 10 percent dis abled with being held as a prisoner of war. Agent Orange and other herbi cides: Nine diseases are considered service-related for compensation purposes for veterans exposed to Agent Orange and other herbicides in Vietnam. Services were held Monday, June 25, 2001 at Kulleet Bay Shaker Church, B.C. Smith. Phyllis is survived by brother, Jim Coburn, two sisters Jessie Redfox, and June Ryland; daughter, Maria Ring; sons, Richard, Oliver, Jim and Scott; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her entire family. She was a person who dedicated her entire life to raising her family. Mass was celebrated at Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church in Albu querque and Interment at Sante Fe National Cemetery. parents Terry, Sr. and Catherine Courtney of Warm Springs, a sister Teri (Cricket) Jones of Oregon City, six brothers David and Scott Courtney of St. Francis, SD, John Brunoe of Oregon City, Lyman Jim of Warm Springs, Leonard Redfox of Lummi, WA, Urban Gibson of Or egon City, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in the Northwestern United States. Nikki was preceded in death by her late grandparents Urban and Mary Brunoe of Warm Springs. Burial was August 30, at the Agency Cemetery, Warm Springs. Arrangements were made under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Fu neral Home in Madras. ripheral neuropathy. Veterans exposed to radiation: Veterans exposed to ionizing radia tion while on active duty may be eligible for disability compensation if they have disabilities related to that exposure. Gulf War related conditions: Gulf War veterans who suffer from chronic disabilities resulting from undiagnosed illnesses may receive disability compensation. The ill nesses must have begun during ac tive duty during the Gulf War or become evident to a degree of 10 percent or more at any time through December 31, 2001. Allowances for Dependents: Vet erans whose service-connected dis abilities arc rated at 30 percent or more arc entitled to additional allow ances for dependents. The additional amount is determined according to the number of dependents and the degree of disability. A disabled vet eran evaluated 30 percent or more is entitled to a special allowance for a spouse who is in need of the aid and attendance of another person. Incarcerated veterans: VA benefits are restricted if a veteran, surviving spouse, child or dependent parent is convicted of a felony and imprisoned for more than 60 days. The disabil ity compensation paid to an incar cerated veteran is limited to the 10 percent disability rate. Any amounts not paid may be apportioned to eli gible dependents. Payments are not reduced when the recipient is par ticipating in a work-release program, residing in a halfway house, or un der community control. What is disability pension? Who is eligible to receive a dis ability pension? You may be eligible if: You were discharged from service under other than dishonorable con ditions: and You served 90 days or more of active duty with at least one day during a period of war; and You have disabilities that keep you from working a regular, full-time job; and Your countable family income is below a yearly limit set by law. How much does VA pay? VA pays you the difference between your countable family income and the yearly income limit, which de scribes your situation. This differ ence is usually paid in 12 equal monthly payments. Disability Pension Topics Improved pension: Veterans with low incomes may be eligible for monetary support if they served 90 days or more of active military ser vice, one day of which was during the period of war. The veteran must be permanently and totally disabled for reasons other than the veteran's own willful misconduct. The pen sion is reduced by the amount of the countable income of the veteran and the income of the spouse or depen dent children. When a veteran with out a spouse or a child is being fur nished nursing home or domiciliary care by VA, the pension cannot ex ceed $90 per month. Aid and attendance or housebound: A veteran who is a patient in a nursing home, who is otherwise determined by VA to be in need of the regular aid and atten dance of another person, or who is permanently housebound may be entitled to higher income limitations or additional benefits, depending on the type of pension received. Other Disability Benefits Automobile assistance: Veterans and service members qualify for this benefit if they have service-connected loss of one or both hands or feet or permanent loss of use or per manent impairment of vision of both eyes (VA regulations specify how great the impairment must be in order to qualify for this benefit). Veterans entitled to compensation for ankylosis of one or both knees or one or both hips may be eligible for adaptive equipment for an auto mobile. Clothing allowance: Any veteran who is entitled to receive compen sation for a servic-connected disabil ity for which he or she uses pros thetic or orthopedic appliance may receive an annual clothing allowance. The allowance also is available to any veteran whose service-connected skin condition requires prescribed medication that damages the veteran's outer garments.
