Fancy Shawl Dancer
Colorful beads and feathers, bells and shells adorned by Native people
traveling from throughout the United States and Canada made for a beautiful
parade of culture as they gathered at the 23rd annual Lincoln's Pow-wow at
Simnasho, Oregon during the Lincoln's Birthday weekend.
The three day event featured a variety of dance and drum contests,'
memorials and dinners. Young and old danced to the rhythms of the drums
in their finest regalia as hundreds of spectators were entertained. Some of
the contestants provided fierce competition in their respective categories
which resulted in dance offs as in the little boys in the grass dance category.
The winner took home a $1 00.00. World class dancers and singers attended
this small but highly respected pow-wow.
Food vendors provided the fried bread and stew and other refreshments
which fed hungry visitors. Other vendors were on hand displaying works of
' VjrJV- " art, jewelry, and flutes.
