Warm Springs t Alvssa Macv was crowned Miss .... Warm Springs 2000 during the an- nual Miss Warm Springs Pageant which was held in the Simnasho Longhouse December 27, 1999. Alyssa also received trophies for Miss Congeniality, Speaking & Panel Winner, and Best Modern Talent. . Shasta Smith received First Runner-up Miss Warm Springs 2000 "andwiilbecomeMiss WarmSpringsi if for any reason Alyssa will not be able to fulfill her duties to the Miss Warm Springs title. The First to be crowned Jr. Miss Warm Springs l is Cecelia Herrera. Cecelia also re ceived trophies for Miss Congenial ity, Speaking and Panel Winner, Traditional Talent, Modern Talent and Round Dance Champion. Liana Tom is the first runner-up Jr. Miss Warm Springs and will step in as the Jr. Miss Warm Springs if Cecelia is not able to fulfill her du ties to the title. Alyssa Macy is the daughter of James Macy and Carla Dalton and is a member of the Wasco Tribe. She is a senior at Arizona State University majoring in Justice Studies empha sizing on American Indian Justice Studies. She is minoring in Psychol ogy. She served as Ms. Indian ASU and has received an Outstanding Leadership award from the ASU Native American Alumni Associa tion. She will be the first one from our tribe to get the title if she wins. It will be a great thing for our tribe.," said Bridgette. If she does win, Alyssa agreed to hand the title of Miss Warm Springs to Shasta Smith. A member of the Wasco tribe, Shasta ,is the daughter of Frank & "Shirley Smith, Shasta is attending the Salish Kootenai College in Montana. Maryann Meanus who is raising Cecelia. Cecelia is attending Madras High School. She is an active leader in the Little Miss Warm Springs pageant, teaching the girls a variety of dances including the Butterfly Dance, Skip Dance and Shuffle Dance. She also participates in the Thursday evening Washat singing lessons led by her grandmother. Liana Tom is the daughter of Lee and Cheryl Tom and a member of the Paiute Tribe and a descendant from the Grande Ronde Tribe as well. Liana is a Representative on the Oregon Indian Education Youth Leadership Panel. Her she performed the Northern Paiute Pinenut dance she learned from her great-aunt from Nixon Ne vada. Entertaining the audience with a skit on how to be a cowgirl Liana showed off some of her cowgirl skills. . the pageant for next year is al ready in the planning stages and will be held at Kah-nee-ta.
