In the next inning the boys made several errors which led to the final score Lasalle on top. Next up were the visiting Gladiators where they were beat by a score of sixteen to one. Andy Leonard is one of the assistant coaches on the Madras Baseball team. Andy has been an assistant for two years, last year he helped Ken Billingley. He has fifteen years experience after high school so that steered him toward the job. When asked why he decided to become an assistant he said"getting involved was an opportunity with the door wide open and I took it." He also thought it was good to see the people of Warm Springs and Madras coming together to help kids achieve the same goal in the high school. In his second year as assistant, he focuses on the pitchers mostly, then helps wherever needed. Along with helping out the baseball team he also does numerous activities around the reservation. Andy is employed at the Community Center, where he works with kids of all ages. He also helps in the many running events as well as the basketball and softball tournaments year round. Andy graduated from Madras High School in 1982 where he was very active in sports. He was a four-year letterman in baseball, three-year in football, one-year in basketball. These days Andy keeps himself busy by playing in the adult baseball league in Bend, this being his fourth year. He has also competed in the National Championships in Phoenix, AZ. He played with a Portland baseball team called Rose City. During the tournaments, they have what they call game by game MVP's. Andy received this award three out of the six games in which they competed. Andy has devoted a lot of his time to sports and for that many people are appreciative. So, when you see Andy walking around feel free to say hello or ask him any questions you might have or are concerned about. Tips from the Pro 1 Joe "Da Pro" Rotate left hand to right to kill slice. Many inexperienced golfers have an abundance of weak, sliced shots. Sometimes, the culprit is a faultily left-hand grip, which prevents the right hand from turning over on impact. If you fit this description, the V formed by your left thumb and forefinger points to your left shoul der. This will cause you to open the clubface and lose clubhead speed through impact, because your hands are not working together. By turning your left hand more to the right ("strengthening") so that the V points between your right shoulder and chin, you'll give your self a much better chance to square the clubface and increase clubhead speed. Once you have a proper grip, improvement will proceed rapidly. League results for Thursday April 23, was play your best golf low gross and low net off the red, white, and blue tees.
