"tT" 4 February 26, 1998 Warm Springs, Oregon Spilyay Tymoo E Coosh EEWA: The way it is ? IJ!-'.! jar .,i 1 There are people hereon the Reservation wondering if we have any kind of dog ordinance that would take care of animals that run at large. There are so many un managed dogs that are infected with MANGE and are un-cared for. These dogs belong to people that don't seem to care what their dogs do. These dogs have Mange which is not a sight to have, and they bother the neighborhood turning over trash cans, scattering garbage and making a mess in various neighborhoods. These Mangie dogs go into peoples garages and make messes, and they lay around in peoples yards where children play, who knows these kids can contact some very bad decease from these dogs. People complain that when they feed their pets these un managed dogs take over and eat their pets food. . It was asked that perhaps someone from the Wellness Center may have ideas on what to do with situations like this where these infected dogs could start some kind of epidemic of some sort, that might be harmful to the small children that play in this area. If people care enough for their animals they should take them to a Vet. and have them treated to clear up that Mange. It can easily spread to other animals very fast, spread to pets people care about that would cost them added expense taking care of their pets at a Vets. Yep ! The warm weather is around the corner and dogs with this decease could effect many animals through the fly population. Flies can carry germs and spread them all over in no time at all. It's very unsanitary to see these animals suffer like they are. If the owners don't want to take care of their Mangy dogs, they should have them put to sleep so they won't be effecting other peoples pets , pets people care for. At one time there was a program, whe you went through the ,, Wellness Center there was a big discount on treatment for ybur animals at the vets. Who know there might still be some sort of aid a person could get for their animals only if they tried to seek aid. This makes it hard on those families who have pets and they care for them, and to see these infected dogs running at large in the neighborhood. The warmer weather is near The weather has been pretty mild lately and the way things look it will soon be, "Green Up-Time," like they used to day in the olden days. The days are getting longer and soon everyone will be out working in their yard. Or dudting off that fishing basket checking the tack box to see if all the necessary tackle are there that you need when you cast6 your ling into the Deschutes river. Some may be tunning up the motor for the boat so as they can do water skiing or fishing form the boat on Lake Billy Chinook, or the Pelton Lake. On good days its good just to take the boat out for a long ride around the lake, a person can see many things just riding around in a boat . There is a lot of wilflife and just pretty country out there. Threre are people who like to do gardening of all kinds vegtables and things that keep themselves busy. The farmers are also out from day break to dusk working on their fields growing feed for their livestock. Than there are the sports fans who like to go the ball fields to watch their little tykes do their thing on the baseball field. There is something for every age group of kids like the Pee-wee league, Minor league, Little leaglue, Babe Ruth for the older guys. And of course there is the softball for the girls also from the little girls to the older ones. Yep! you will hear the shouts from the little tykes on the ball fields and the mitts a popping as they play catch warming up for a game. The popping of the baseball bat as the coach warms up the infield before the game, and finally the shout of, "Play Ball," by the Umpire. There are some kids who look foward to the rodeo season where they are getting their horses ready to compete in either roping or barrel racing. The kids are very competitive in the rodeo game in all events. They compete against other school rodeo teams all spring just like any other sport. The only difference the parents have to pick up the travel for their kids as they travel to all the rodeos just like the the big guys in big time. . Toe Can you guess what happened to this not so bright guy who went to the driving range to hit a bucket of balls? He broke his driver on the bucket! The Warm Springs youth are rich with exceptional tal ent and potential. It was great to see the youth enjoy themselves playing basketball with their friends. It shows that you parents have spent a lot of time in keeping you involved with positive activities. I also would like to recognize the coaches who make it possible for all of the youth to be as prepared and participating with these types of activities. I want to thank the community center for assisting our team and com munity by making the facility avail able. Here is a high point for your calendar. On Feb ruary 25 the season of Lent began. WOW, you say.. .the season of Lent. Well, as some have said about the Winter Olympics - "Who cares!!" History cares..for the last 2,000 years the 45 days before Easter called Lent, has been called the time of being in Spiritual Boot Camp. The purpose of Lent is for you to call into question all areas of your spirituality. To find the fat areas of your faith and put it to" work. To find the thin areas of your faith and strengthen and beef up. And for the greatest time of Lent is to find new areas in your life and add to your spiritual self. Do you pray everyday? If you don't - Start! Do you read the bible? If you don't - Start! Do you worship God? If you don't - Start!" Do you let God have a hand in your; life? If you don't - Let Him.
