The Yakama Eastside Bulls came
away with the Warm Springs Cougars
8th grade & under basketball
Championship jackets, which was
held February 28 to March 2, at the
Warm Springs Community Center.
The tourney was set with an four
learn pool play Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday the eight teams played an
single elimination tourney. Tourney
Director Austin Greene stated
"Everyone got to play at least four
games and got something for their
efforts. I have been to some tourneys
were you can pay up $135-1 65 dollars
and the kids get nothing for their
efforts, so I decided to reward the
kids, that's why each player got
something at my tournament."
On Sunday Ish Gee Looksh and
Redmond played the first game of
the day. Redmond controlled the
game from start to finish and had a
34-10 half time lead. Redmond had
four players in double digits in scoring
lead by Bryce Carpenters' 1 6 points.
Gabe Walker lead Ish Gee Looksh
with 12 points.
In game two the host Cougars
faced off with the Uswuns. The
Cougars prove to have too much
talent for the younger Uswuns. The
Cougars won by the score of 78-53.
The host team were lead by Aaron
Greens 2 1 points. Four other players
had 11 or more points. Brandon
Mitchell scored 16 points to lead
Uswuns.
( Game three had the Timbercubs
going against the Yakama Bulls. The
Bulls were too big for the smaller
Timbercubs and won going away by
the score of 60-26. Lead by David
Andersons' 18 points.
The Tigers and Madras Produce
played the next game. Madras used
its height and quickness to out run
the Tigers and won by the score of
81-15. Tony Greene, Madras, lead
all score's with a game high 14.

game against Redmond, in which
In the first semi-final game ihc
host Cougars played Redmond.
Redmond fell behind early and never
recovered. The Cougars played good
team defense and forced a lot of turn
overs in which resulted in easy baskets
for the Cougars. The Hrst half ended
with the Cougars leading by the score
of 32-13. Floyd Frank Jr. had eight
first-half points.
In the second half the Redmond
team made a run at the Cougars lead
but the hot shooting Cougars made a
couple of three pointers that two by
Aaron Greene and Chascn Walker,
seemed to take the sails out of the
Redmond team. The final score read
Cougars 6 1 , to Redmonds 3 1 . Aaron
Greene scored 17 and Floyd Frank
scored 18 to lead the Cougars.
In the other semi-final game the
Yakama Bulls played Madras, in a
game that had the crowd on its seats
for most of the game. The games first
half was played even with the Bulls
leading by the score of 29-27. Neither
team could pull away from each other.
AJohn Lee lead the Bulls with 12
first half points.
The second Madras played right
with the Bulls but the inside outside
attack wore down Madras with Lee
doing it inside and tourney MVP Joe
Nanamkin scoring outside. Combined
the two had 36 points. To lead the
Bulls lo a hard fought win 56-53.
In the final game of the day the
Bulls and Cougars played even
basketball for the first half, with the
Cougars leading by the score of 27
22, with Aaron Greene scoring nine
of his 1 3 points. The Bulls could not
penetrate the Cougars two-three zone
defense and the Cougars had a hot
shooting first half.
The second half the Cougars lost
their shooting touch and the Bulls
started to run the ball. The Bulls used
an inside attack with AJohn Lee, who
scored 10 of his game high 16 in the
to November.
