4 December 19, 1996 Warm Spring OR 97761 Spilyay Tymoo E Coosh EEWA: &mmmmm Thewayitis S"B ZhY&Y S P-5 & S Sincere thanks Thank you for all JeSUS is the reason Tis the season to be Jolly! I ? The feeling of great Joy! The time when we all reflect back to remember all the things that have past during the year. Some good, some bad, and some so, so. ..sometimes things go beyond imagination and we all like to think of the good things that have filled our lives with joy. All the fun things where everyone had a good time. Trips on vacations and special trips around the country. Yep! I believe we should be more thoughtful throughout the year and not wait until the Christmas season to keep in touch with loved ones and dear friends. Because as the world turns a person can never see whats in store for the future. Things can happen to upset things and there can be nothing a person can do to prevent it. I guess things are the same all down through the years; just like in the olden days when Custer lost the battle at, "Little Big Horn," it was a massacre, but if he would have won the battle it would have been a great Victory. Its been that way all down through the years to the Native Americans. They took all the prime lands for the settlers and stuck us (Native Americans) here on a pile of rocks, so to speak. That worthless land full of hills and covered with trees. Just like on the great plains they killed off all the Buffalo so the Indians wouldn't have sufficient food and hides for clothing and shelter. Here in the northwest they took all the Columbia River tribes and put them on reservations. But in the treaty they agreed to let the Native Americans retain the right to hunt, fish, gather fruits and vetatation in all accustomed places. At one time there was a canal that by-passed the Celilo Falls which made it navagatabel to up stream shipping. They saw the Indians doing well with the fishing at the Celilo Falls, and they finally came up with the plan to build The Dalles Dam, in order to flood the Celilo Falls, and to generate more electricity. Of all tVyn n v nil i'ni' Kanonra tKofa nra cdimril rttdor "t'lrvic that f 1 1 fr just as well. The gaming situation is in scrutiny as the tribes are doing well in some areas and now the states want to intervene and put their finger in the pie Anything the Indians do well at the states and non-Indians oppose the project, unless they can come into the success along with all the profits. The Native Americans try to become self sufficient and can if there is no interference by the states. "Oh Well ! !," I must be in my Ho-Humbug... Scrooge mood, to be writing all these true things. Guess I just can't help it...about the Native Americans have took on the chin all these years. Well, I just can't help it...about the Native Americans and what they went through all down the years. ...So I shall change the scene a bit and start thinking of all the happy times and what a good Christmas season this could be. The Birth of our savior that took place many years ago in a manger in Bethlehem. I should be thinking of how all families will be gathering to share joy among each other. Remember all the good friends and the good things that happened as I listen to "Andy Williams singing, Chestnuts Roasting on an open fire." Kinda gives me the spirit of Christmas and try not to think of the bad things... So at this time I would like to say to ALL, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year....AHH-NAH-CHI-TOONM SS SS SS The basketball season is here and around the country there will be tournaments all around the country. There have already been some played called back-door tournaments. To me those are cry baby tournaments. If beater once they are like crying to play again. A real tournament is a team never gets beat. If they get beat than the best they can do is play for consolation. Those are the only tournaments I'd be willing to cover. The holiday tournament is scheduled to be played in the Warm Springs Community Center, there usually are 16 teams in this tournament. Teams from all over the western part of the country and at times they come from the mid-west. California usually comes in full force with teams from Santa Clara, and other parts of the state. They really have the personnel on their teams. given to all your help To the editor, To my family, friends, relatives & eomiminily of WS: I would like to take this time to express my sincere "Thank you" and appreciation to Carol, Austin, Fran and the entire community center staff for the memorial put on for my father (grandpa) Popcyc & grandma Caroline. These two people raised me, during my time spent alter school at the center. They raised a lot of children who went down there, and enjoyed their company. My grandpa Popcye's birthday is on December 12, he shared it with my son Dallas. This is always a very hard time of the year, but still I thank the Lord for a big family and 3 staff members at the community center who will let his memory live on al ways. I thank each and everyone who attended. It makes my heart happy. Well, we are days from Christmas and for most it will be some singing, good food, and some packages to rip open for the goodies inside. Then it is over; College bowl games till New Years, left-overs for lunch, and back to work. Now if you want to feel the meaning of Christmas during Christmas go to Wal-Mart or Bi-Mart or any place that has a guy or gal ringing the little bell over a donation bucket. Now when you go by, take a quarter out of your pocket and put it into the bucket. Say "No thank you" at the little good saying card the person may offer you and then say "Merry Christmas". If you do this because you want to, and not because you feel you have to, then when you drop the quarter in, say no, and say "Merry Christmas", you will have a two to Ave second Happy Birthday to our nephew You're "1" On 122396 Love, the 6-pack Jacks Happy Birthday Linda Langley your cuz, Tina & family Happy wishes sent to son, brother N $r "'h 9 t. I enjoyed read ing the Spilyay Tymoo article in the December 5, 1996 edition. A con versation with: George Aguilar, Sr. Most enjoyable was being able to see glimpses of our people's past as George's conversation was shared with his people. I look forward to perhaps the Senior Citizen's Corner in the Spilyay Tymoo where we young people can learn and treasure in our hearts these special shared memories of our elders.
