The Madras White Buffaloes
hosted Seaside on September 1 3. This
was the first home game for the 1996
97 season.
The defense dominated the first
quarter with both teams unable to
score. Then in the second quarter
Seaside got the ball deep in the
Buffaloe' s territory and running back
Tony Putman ran the ball in from 10
yards out. A Madras turnover on their
next possession gave the Seaside the
ball again. Seaside pounded the ball
in with quarterback Mike Little
scoring from the 1 yard line. Madras's
next possession they had to punt the
ball. Seaside then drove the ball down
field with a key pass that put them on
Madras 5 yard line. Mike Little punch
it in from the two for his second
touchdown of the game. At half time
the score read Seaside 21, Madras 0.
After the half the scoring stopped
until the fourth quarter when Seaside
added seven more points with Chis
Moes running the ball in from the 7
yard line.
"This Seaside team has much
experience and are well coached.
They won a state title two years ago
and were in the playoffs last year "
Madras coach Chip Deloretto stated.
Also adding "Seaside was big with
their front line averaging 250 pounds
and 16 seniors on their roster, but I
felt that we weren't doing the things
that we had too, to win this game."
Coach Deloretto stated also adding
"I am really proud of the team because
they didn't give up and played hard
until the game was over. Also, I liked
the way they handled the loss-very
serious."
Seaside had 286 rushing yards on
47 carries. Mike Little passed for
109 yards, he was 6-12 passing.
Madras rushed for 62 yards, Keller
Chirstenson getting 57 yards of those
yards on 19 carries. Madras
quarterback Mike Kirsch passed for
66 yards, he was 3-12. Scott Riddle
had two catches for 60 yards. Madras
goes on the road the next three weeks,
with their first stop being at Estacada
on September 20, 1996.
