I would like to apologize for the incident that occurred on May 4, 1996. 1 was very intoxicated. I would also like to apologize to the officers involved. Sincerely, Donalda Shortrnan To the editor, I would like to express my deepest regret for the incident that occurred a year and a half ago. A friend and I were involved in a high-speed car chase and we wrecked by the new clinic. It was terrible accident that left my friend, Rupert Smith in a coma and myself in a lot of legal problems. We had decided to drink and drive around at the time, I considered it a good time. I didn't think of the consequences of my actions. I cannot change the course of events that took place, but, I want to apologize to the community of Warm Springs for the potential dangers I placed upon the other Tribal Members and their families. I want to sincerely apologize tor my actions and to acknowledge the grave dangers of drinking and driving. I have come to know that alcohol and driving do not mix and what it costs for others and the lives it ruins. I can't change the outcome of what has happened, no matter hard and bad I want to. But, I can let other people know it doesn't pay to drink and drive. This is something I will have with all my life, the not knowing and the sadness of the whole situation. To Rupert and his family, I would like to apologize for my actions and for the pain I have caused them. I am at a loss for words to describe the way I feel about Rupert's condition and best way I know is to say I am truly sorry.
