Youth encouraged to join livestock club As o ft J J i- To the parents of Warm Springs, The Rockin' 4-H Club wants your kids. It's fun! There are plenty of activities available for youth who are sitting in front of the TV rather than getting some fresh air and exercise. For kids with an interest in animals, especially beef cattle, there are opportunities for them to become involved in lots of fun stuff related to the ranching business. Everyone invited to services Vslili ' Warm Sorlnas Health & Wellness Center ! j1'kJ!S From The Apologies- To the editor, Hello from Pastor Rick. It was the night before Christmas and all through the house not a dime could be found. The credit cards are worn thin from use at the stores. The tree is full with gifts and we have no milk in the refrigerator. The cars are acting up and need repair. The dog is about to have a litter of pups from a dad unknown. Finally there is a gift in the house of a layer of tension and stress that is hang from the relationships of mom and dad; parents and the kids. Merry Christmas!! WAIT...what does credit cards, car repair, dogs and no milk have to do with Christ mas? They have everything to do and yet nothing to do with Christmas. You see Christmas is the season of a relationship. Christmas is the story of God going to an active mode of involvement with His creation. God being human becoming involved with us humans. This is the main founda tion of Christmas. Our Lord God, coming to us out of Love. Dogs, cars, tension, etc. can be forces in our lives that push us away from the One who Loves us. Or if we choose to let these things push us toward God. Merry Christmas. The Messiah has come; the Christ is here; God has his hand reached out to you. Everyone is invited to Christmas Eve service on December 24 at 11 a.m. The service will be our Sunday School play of Christmas. Also on Christmas day, December 25 at 1 1 a.m. there will be a service of the Lord's supper. Pastor Rick R. Ribeiro WS Presbyterian church On the campus. Dana Sportsman Happy belated birthday Linda Langley on December 18 from Nettie, Joshua, Dempseyand Mallory Columbia River In-LIeu Phase 1 Construction Sites Purpose: To provide employment opportunities for treaty tribal enrollees living onnear Columbia River Zone 6, and who have demonstrated that treaty fishing has and will be a primary source of livelihood. Qualified enrolled members of the Nez Perce, Umatilla, Warm Springs and Yakama tribes have preference in hiring. Location: Bonneville, Cascade Locks, Underwood and Lone Pine sites. To apply, submit applications andor resumes to any treaty tribe's personnel office, TERO office or apply with Wheeler Construction at (509) 874-8888. In Warm Springs, contact Benson Heath, Perosnnel Manager or Libby Chase, Contracting Officer, at (54 1 ) 553 3391. Phase 1 of this project will last about one year. Davis-Bacon wages are in effect. This a drug-free project. Contruction consists primarily of making the sites more accessible through asphalt paving, restrooms, boat launch, etc. Portions of the project will be subcontracted. Phase 2 is slated to begin in 1997, of up to 30 more access sites. This construction is contingent upon Congressional approval. You may not be aware that the Rockin' 4-H Club has its own cow herd. We have four mother cows and four calves. The herd is wintering on the 4-H pasture at Tenino Road. You are welcome to drop by the Extension office at the Old Boy's Dorm to enroll your youngsters in 4-H. We have been experiencing some serious vandalism at the pasture lately, along with harassment of the cattle on a regular basis. Specifically, junior high aged boys from Tenino Apartments and West Hills. Not only are they scaring the poor critters, they are teaching their dogs some really bad habits. We at Extension cannot be held responsible if an unsupervised youth is injured down there. Rather, we would especially like to invite these particular boys to join the club to learn a skill, instead of causing trouble. For every minute a calf is unnecessarily harassed, it loses 10 pounds. That would not be acceptable if you were a rancher, and it's not profitable for the club. We need your help to see that this program succeeds for the benefit of youth at Warm Springs.
