Buffaloes Win In Double OT
Over Estacada Ranqers
The Estacada Rangers came to town
and give the Madras While Buffaloes a
big scare, but the Buffaloes kept cool to
win the Tri-Vallcy league game in
double overtime, by he final score of
82-72, in a real thriller.
The Buffs trailed throughout most
of the game as the fired up Estacada
team kept the pressure on the Buffs. At
times it looked lime the Buffs would
suffer a home floor loss.
Madras post man Scott Riddle
helped the Buffs back in contention
after he sat out the first quarter and
most of the second quarter because of
a couple of quick fouls called on him
. with-in a couple minutes of the game.
. But when he did return to the lineup
. things began to happen. Scott Riddle
. burned the nets for a total of 34 points
for the night to top all scorers and got
. the Buffs rolling.. Scott Riddle was
doing almost everything good for the
Buffs, getting the rebounds on both
ends ofthefloorand blocking Estacada
shots both under the basket and on the
preimetcr; TJ Foltz played a superb
game with his quick moves driving
toward the basket to score or pass off
for an assist.. Both Riddle and Foltz
were the only two players in double
figures for the Buffs as Foltz collected
15 points for the night.
At the end of the first quarter the
. Rangers held a 5 point lead over the
Buffs and were hustling all over the
place keeping the Buffs pretty well at
bay. By the time the intermission came
around the B uffaloes did get back in the
ball game to let the Estacada know that
they were still around but Estacada
held the lead
The Estacada team a very balanced
team that could rotate five players at a
time and each group played just as
good a game as the other. They were all
fired up and had the Buffaloes backed
to the wall and wouldn't let them run
l(X)sc. Each time the Buffs would get
ahead one of the Estacada boys would
come up with a three pointer to put
them back in the lead again.
After three quarters the Buffs were
finally in the lead 41-40, but the score
see-sawed throughout the final quarter
and finally ending up in the deadlock at
57 apiece as Foltz let a long shot fly just
before the buzzer which hit the rim and
bounced away.
In the first over time period it looked
like the Buffs might have things pretty
well in hand but just before the buzzer
sounded Estacada managed to tic the
score again at 65 all. In the final OT
both teams played very tough ball but
the fouls cought up with the Rangers
and even caused them to draw a big,
"T" The Buffs finally pulled away to a
ten point win 82-72.

build a big load over the larger
Gladstone team.
Tara Lee Suppah had the hot hand in
scoring for the Bullets as she drilled the
nets for a total of I') points to lead the
madras attack. The Buff giils played a
good defensive game even though they
were the smaller team.
At the end of the first quailer the
Madias girls led 19 5. The lady Gladi
ators couldn't seem to gel anything to
fall through the nets. In the second
quailer Gladstone girls started to make
a run at the Buds who were holding
their own and ahead of the host team.
During the second quarter both teams
scored 15 points apiece and as the half
time rolled around the score was 34-20
in favor of the Buff girls For the Gladi

of league playjilters where they couldn't
L'el started.
In the third quarter the Gladstone
girls came to life a little to out score
Madras by a20 to 8 margin to bring the
score to a two point ball game but the
Madias girls held their slim lead. The
Madias girls held their composer and
played the rest of the game on an even
basis with the Gladston girls.
The Buff girls played well enough
to nip the Gladstone girls in the final

The White Buffaloe Girls
Run Past Sherwood
A good defense can score a lot of
points as did the Madras Buffalo girls
did against the Sherwood girls team
here last Friday night and beating them
by the score of 62-32.
From one turn over to another game
the Madras girls a good scoring oppor
tunity and they took advantage of it as
they spanked the Sherwood Bowmen
gals for the league win. This all came
from a real tight defensive game by the
Buff gals.
At the end of the first quarter the
score was 16-4. It was an all around
good team effort that put the pressure
on the visiting team. By the time the
half time rolled around the score was
3212.
In the third quarter Sherwood had
their best scoring spree where they
scored 12 points and 17 for the Buff
gals. The Madras gals didn t let up
even in the final quarter where most of
the reserves were on the floor as they
made a 13-8 run to win their third
league game and now have a 3-0 league
standing.

win over the host Sherwood Bowmen
Friday night by the score of 62-58. The
game was the first league game for
both teams from the Tri-Vallcy league.
With three Madras players scoring
in double figures helped clinch the win.
Sherwood a highly regarded team in
the league game the Madras White
Buffaloes all they could handle for the
night.
The Buffs were out in front at the
end of the first quarter by two with the.
score 14-12, but the determined Bow
men battled back to take the lead away
from the Buffs at the intermission where
the score was 25-24.
In the third quarter the Buff's were .
able to regain the lead in an exciting
game where both teams played well
where at times the game went on basket
for basket, but when the final buzzer
sounded to end the third quarter the
Buffs were ahead 37-32.
In the final stanza the pesky Bow
men kept hanging around playing a
hard game and were able to tie the score
at 51 all at the end of regulation play.
In the overtime period the scrappy
Buff team put the clamps on the host
Sherwood team out scoring them 1 1-7

town. There will be three games on tap
with the Freshmen game starting at 4
PM, the JV game at 5:445 and the
Varsity game will get underway at 7:30
P.M.
Last year the Rangers played a pretty
good game against the Buffs both here
and at their floor. So this could be a
pretty interesting game. Turn out to
root for your favorite team. Tuesday

Madras White Buffalo basketball,
"As I See'Um." Transforming from
the oohs and ahhhs! Of football, to the
Rah, Rahs, of basketball gives the fans
some good moments as both the boys
and girls teams arc making a pretty
good start of the 95-96, basketball sea
son. Tostart off the season in the Madras
invitational holiday tournament the
boys done a 50-50 mark by winning
one and losing one.
In the first game of the tournament
the Buffaloes bopped the Eagle Point,
a4-A team by thescorc ol 66-44, going
away.Thcgamccouldhavcbecnwor.se
but substitutions kept the score down
and almost all the boys got to sec action
in that game. There was a good show
ing by the local hoopsters in front of the
home town crowd as they routed the
Eagle Point team. Scott Riddle, a Jr.
poured in a total of 32 points before he
sat down for the night. Riddle was good
on defense and had a super night scor
ing by turning in a total of 32 points for
the night. T J Foliz had himself quite a
night keeping the opponents on their
toes all evening long with his quick
drives down the lane or around the
sidelines and feeding off to players
under the basket, or scoring as well
himself..
On Saturday night the champion
ship game at slake between The
Honkers of Henley and the White Buf
faloes of Madras. The game belonged
to the I lonkcrs early in the game as they
jumped out to an early lead and never
relinquished it throughout the game.
The Henley Honkers went on to win
the game by the score of 62-55, which
wasn't a blow out but still a loss for the
home team. The highly regarded
Honker team had quite a lead as much
as 1 5 points at one point, but the Buffs
kept a digging away at the lead gnaw
ing itdown to where the Honkers had to
play heads up to keep the Buffs from
overtaking them.
Michael Kirsch led the Buff scoring
with 12 points, Scott Riddle played a
good defensive game but was bottled
up on the offensive side of the game. TJ
Foltz, with his crafty ball handling kept
the defense hopping around as he made
several key assists under the basket..
Their bid in the final quarter fell short
to give the Hornets the win and the
championship for this years Madras
Invitational Holiday basketball tour
nament. Scott Riddle and TJ Foltz, along
with Peoples and Waugh of Henley
and Michaels of Eagle Point were cho
sen the All-Tournament players.
