4 June 8, 1995 Warm Springs, Oregon SpilyayTymoo E Coosh EEWA: Tire way it is IL SV XliYh-Y SVEhRQ Bible school set for June 19-23 Jackpot! ! ! Struck it Rich...With all the gaming establishments springing up on all the Indian Res ervations which could mean a suf ficient income for some tribes, especially those tribes who do not have sufficient resources to rely on. The gaming enterprises is cre ating employment for its tribal members and at the same time bringing some income for the tribes. For the first time some tribes are able to bring in some income for their tribes and not really have to depend on hand outs as people call it when there is need for help. What a great feeling it must be to be able to offer employment to its tribal members. The first ever for I T by Sid Miller some reservations as in the past there were no means of any kind of resources for tribes to work with. Yep! In the past there were no means of any kind of resources to work with and this created all kinds of problems on the reservations where there were a lot of drinking alcohol, using drugs and all that stuff because there was so much idle time and no employment to look forward to. It was one scrape after another and some people even hit skid road from all the broken promises made during the treaty signing days many years ago. : Gaming has changed the course of many tribes and the future appears to look bright in many respects. People getting employment they never had before and settling down earning a steady income and even having spending money for the family. The Native Americans seem to be on a road to recovery so to speak. With the small jobs they have they can do things as a family together for a change and not having the family waiting for the father to return home after an unsuccessful search of a job. Ooops! Wait-A-Minute! ! ! Now that the Indians have started to look like they might have a means of self sufficiency the White Man wants to get his fingers in the Pie. Yep! There is a bill in Legislature, House Bill No, 34 1 1 , that bill if passed will allow gaming at the horse and dog race tracks where hundreds of gaming machines would be installed that would Rival the Indian gaming enterprises to drain the funds from the Native Americans once again. After all the hard work by all the Tribes and a whole lot of money spent to make gaming a success, the White Man wants to step in and take over on all the Income. What ever the Indians have had that was good in the past the White Man managed to take it away with all their lies and cheating that went on all along. Make promises and broke them as long as they got what they wanted. It all started right form the beginning of the birth of the new world when the Pilgrims first came to our country. There were times when the Indians kept the Pioneers from starving to death but that didn't stop them from becoming greedy and taking what ever they could. Some people would say the frontiersmen would stab his best friend in the back to get what he wanted so it was easy for them to do what they did to the Indians in the early days. Masquerade as Indians to raid the other settlers so the Soldiers would round up the Indians or drive them away so the White Man could have the best lands there was.. Today the Indians have been making headway in the gaming field in different parts of the country and it must look pretty good to the rest of the public as to where they want to get into that today. The Indians will be cast aside or run out of business by the White Man to where we will be in poverty once again. AHH-NAH-CHI-TOON! ! To the editor. Hello from Pastor Rick. I want to talk a bout collection of things. In the Bible the word adultery means un faithfulness. To have the outward look of commitment and being together. Yet the inward eyes of wanting or being with someone else. You com mit adultery when you look at some one else and compare them with the one you are committed with in life. Why is it wrong??? The other person of your wants is someone you do not know like you know your own mate. Remember, your mate is someone you know when they cry, laugh, and when they make funny sounds; you know your mate. The other person is still a tempting mystery, so you fill in the information with fantasy. You make the other person a better talker, lover, friend person in your life cries, laughs and makes funny sounds too. You fantasy turns out to be an other human being. Not the answer to the pain or struggle in our committed relationship. Do not commit adul tery. Commit yourself to making your relationship a growing , loving, life together. Next time a word on alco hol & drugs as an act of adultery against your committed relationship.. Many in Warm Springs know that a good cow dog is worth its weight in gold. A good do saves you time and money in working your cattle. Plus that dog is a good friend on top of being a good hand. Warm Springs Police has now an active K-o patrol. A police officer with his dog. NO, not the TV show "COPS" kind of dog that will pull your arm off if you move. K-o patrol is a dog with a nose. To compare our nose with a dog nose is the same as walking around the world and flying in a jet around the world, this dog can smell things that people should not have in their cars, homes, or on themselves. The community of Warm Springs has a good hand working for them, a very good dog. Once again, Vacation Bible School is coming to Warm Springs. June 19 to June 23. Thank you To the editor, I just wanted to send a big thank you out to all the people who were responsible for funding the partici pants who were able to attend the fourth annual Wellness & Native Men's Conference on May 22-25 at Albuquerque, NM. This year's theme was "Honoring & Sharing Gifts of Brotherhood". Although I don ' t know , who all was responsible, I just would ; like to name a few that I do know of: ; The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the Vocational Rehab dept.. the Senior Citizen's staff (Wilson, Eileen, & Wilfred) for their time and ; patience as drivers. And all the other Tribal dept.'s who excused their workers so they could attend the con ference. Last, but most importantly, the Work Experience & Develop ment deptVJTPA programs for their support with the belief that all who attended would benefit greatly for the better. I want to add a special thank you to the director of WEDD, Marcia Soliz for the words of en couragement and the verbal nudge in the right direction. Also thanks to all the people who donated items to be raffled off as prizes. And to all who purchased the raffle tickets or attended fund raisers put on by the WEDD staff. I would also like to commend all the men for their conduct during their time spent at the conference which is a positive reflection on their dept. and the Con federation Tribes of Warm Springs as a positive community. A loving thanks to my family for their prayers and all their support. Thank you for you time. La-Wat La-Wat (Davis Stwyer, Sr.) PS I truly enjoyed this opportu nity to experience my first Wellness conference. Looking forward to more in the future. Toe Ness Decisions being made for us all that A Student asked the teacher: "Do the Canadians have aFourth Of July?" The Teacher: "No, they don't." Student: "What do they do than, July 1, 2, 3, and 5.?" YIKES SS SS SS It s come to my attention t Warm Springs is laying out pipes at the bottom of Mutton Mountain. Someone told me that it is to connect all houses on the North end to the main water supply. It's strange, I don't recall being allowed to vote about this matter. My memory has been good these past ten years. Who Ole Joe said: "Marriage is a great institution, but I'm not ready for an Institution yet." YIKES SS SS SS Marriage Counselor: Do you have a common goal in life? Counselee: We would both like to be very, very rich. But we'll never make it because we married each other. YIKES SS SS SS Wife: " You think more of your golf game than you do us, you don' t even remember when we were married." Husband: "Of course I do, it was the day I sank that thirty five foot Putt." YIKES aw SS SS SS Teacher What do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested? Student; "A Teacher." YIKES SS SS SS Photo Happy Birthday Dorothea Gabrielle Joe Love, Mom, Dad & the rest of the family made this decision for all of us? Was it people pulling the strings of cer tain people? Originally every house has its own well. We have sweet water on Mut ton Mountain just like Rattlesnake Springs water. Why would I want to be connected to the main water sup ply which most likely will have for eign chemicals introduced into it like fluoride which has been used in ex periments and found to have killed rats? We understand that Warm Springs Agency homes on the main water supply are already being monitored for their water usage. Are we being set up to start paying for our LIFE.. .WATER? We are already paying for electricity when our own Reservation has its own power enter prise. Let the people have a voice and really truly give the decision making back to the people. If there are any people out there who care to respond to this, please write to me: (P.O. Box 898, Warm Springs, OR 97761) to make me aware of what is really happening, now that my true self is back. Willard Tewee A special belated birth day to Jessie Wolfe-Esquiro 52495, and a special Happy Birthday to William Esquiro June 24, 1995 With all our love, James, Josie, Jenny, your Baby Jay, and Jr. Redfox, and especially Sharondee LeRae Mitchell JeredSon! Happy Birthday June 9 Sometimes... I can feel it, but other times it really doesn't seem that long ago you were my baby boy and you looked just like this piture. I called you my little man. When you got a little older you liked to watch Kermit the Frog and Fraggle Rock. You had everyone of those He-men. Then you were into Ninjas. Now it's CDs, clothes, on the phone too long. Always wanting to "hang" with your friends. Oh, and always wanting to drive my care every chance you get. I can't believe all of a sudden how big you've gotten. Happy birthday and many more to come, Love Mom and Sister Like a broken record, "Behave yourself.. .You Hear?" P.S. From G.P. too!! -. e t j ' ' .
