4 March 17, 1995 Tribal Council Election Information Seekseequa District Seekseequa voters will vote for two candidates A2S A) 'I y .,, ), . A A ; V; My name is Theron (Bones) Johnson. I'm a candidate for Tribal Council for the Seekseequa District. At 36 years of age, I have been mar ried for 15 years and have a daughter who Is a sophomore in high school. I am the son of Ellen (Henry) Johnson, grandson of Alex Henry. I have one older brother and four sisters. I graduated from Wasco County Union High School (Maupin, OR) in 1976 and began working for the US Forest Service, mainly fire fighting. I also worked as a maintenance worker at Kah-Nee-Ta, which meant I filled in for all jobs at the Village area from housekeeping to the restaurant. In 1903, 1 was selected for the four year Forestry Trainee Program and have been with the Warm Springs For estry Department for 12 years. Cur rently I hold the position of Agency Check Scaler for the Bureau of Indian Affair. In the last five years I have had the opportunity to serve on the Advisory Committee for the Madras High School Forestry students. I've participated in judging their skills contests. I am also , j j Theron Johnson currently serving on the Columbia River Scaling Bureau Board of Directors Rules Committee which meets approxi mately once every two months to review and approve or disapprove any rule changes. I have served on the tribal Timber Committee for the last two Council terms. Some of my personal Interests are attending high school sporting events, fishing, hunting and most outdoor activities. My greatest concern is for our youth and I encourage them to go on to col lege and get their degrees. The Educa tion Program is crucial for our children and our future. All Tribal Members should have the opportunity to further their training and education, because within all of us are hidden talents that would be so beneficial to this commu nity if given the chance to grow. Being on Tribal Council means work ing together as a team for the good of the tribal organization and the Warm Springs Community. If elected to Tribal Council, I will do my very best to serve the Seekseequa District as well as all our Tribal Members. Seekseequa District Write-In candidate- Wilson Wewa, Sr. No statement submitted by candidate I will be a write-in candidate for the Seekseequa District. I come from Numu, the Paiute families of the South End. At the persuasion of several dis- A xf A - V i i x. .' w;;. Carolyn Wewa trict members, I have agreed to be a write-in candidate. Whatever the out come of the election, I would like to thank these people for their confidence and support. I am half Paiute and half Coushatta. My home has always been here on the Warm Springs Reservation. Some people think this is not an important is sue. But living among the people gives insights into the very core of what makes our home what it is today, the obstacles we've faced, the perceptive ness to decide what's best for our people, and the right to make that deci sion. My late father, Melvin Wewa, and grandfather, Sam Wewa, were both pre vious Tribal Council representatives. When alive, Dad shared his! experience of being on Council with me. His hon esty about the interaction that occurred within the Council chambers has pro vided a view that has given me much to consider. He advised me to wait, to listen, watch others, and learn. I have done all that. Our people are looking for strong, sober leadership, which demands assertiveness rather than aggressive ness. This is simply a hard fact that each of us must face. Without this kind of leadership, then we are being short- Joe Moses No statement submitted by candidate 0f ,, ?, I I, r1 ( I tAA-,A 1 . . , .JZ X lb B k a, H: Urn r-'i KA ' lA s -v' -.A changed. I've been in sobriety for al most 20 years, beginning at the age of 23. I am now 42-years-old. Another positive quality I have is patience. If elected, I see a long-rage vision of a reservation devoted to inspiring the health, wellness and safety of its people. It will be a place where respect for each other, and traditional values, are upheld with conviction. Our natural resources will exist In abundance, and the rights of our people remain of ut most importance. The many facets facing our reserva tion are many, and anyone going into Council must realize the enormity of this to do an acceptable job for the people. The people of our reservation are intel ligent, perceptive and able to provide insights that administration, upper man agement and even Council often over look. If we can remember this, then the words our people speak should be words that impact our actions as their representatives. If elected, the only promise I would make is to do the best job possible with the ability and knowledge I have. Again, I thank those individuals who have faith and belief in me. On election day, I urge everyone who is registered to vote for the candidate of their choice. t
