' w t ' r. w V L The final home game for the Madras White Buffaloes, Was Friday February 24, 1995, as they toppled the Portland Christian by the score of 71-58, from a well balanced attack form the team with Phillip Miller leading the way in scoring a total of 26 points to out score the other players on the floor. The host Buffaloes managed to handle the taller Portland Christins team with not much trouble, by out rebound ing them both on the offense and the defensive side of the floor. The Buffs had a pretty good night in scoring as Jake Suppah burned the nets for three 3 pointers and Jeremy Jacks added one. The Buff defense was tramendous dur ing the game and not giving the visiting Portland Christian a second shot on of fense. They even hit their free shots pretty good because free shots can win or lose a game somctines. The Buffs out scored the visitors 20 13 at the end of the first quarter and as the intermission came around the score was 3 1 -1 9, as the Buffalos were holding a pretty comfortable lead at that point. In the third quarter the Portland Christian team made a little comeback as they scored a total of 16 points , but that didn't bother the Red Hot Buffalos as they answered back with 26 points of their own to make the score 57-35 after three quarters. In the final quarter the Portland Christian outscored the Buffs 23-14, as there were many changes in the line up at that point, but that didn't matter as the Buffs were well out of reach at that time. In closing out the season with the big win earned the Buffs a No. 2 seed in the district play-off with a first night bye. On Wednesday the Buffs play The Dalles Indians in Hood River. With wins there could mean a birth in the state tournament which will be held at Eugene, Oregon, on the U of 0 campus in the "Pit." The leading scorer for the Buffs was Phillip Miller 26, Jeremy Jacks 16, Jake Suppah 16, Scott Riddle 6, TJ. Foltz 2, Gregg 2, Johnson I, Barnes, Kirsch, Mcrritt. Well as they say the third time is the charm, and it was for the Valiants who are No. 1 from the Tri-Valley league. The tournament will continue until the No. 2, seed will be filled. The State Championships will be held at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Oregon. During the game on Friday the Madras White Buffaloes took the lead leading 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, but than the Valilants came to life in the second period came storming back to out score the Buff girls 20-12, and take a 34-27 half time lead During the game the Valiants tired to put a full court pressure on the White Buffaloes, but that didn't seem to bother the Buffs and they kept the pressure on the Valiants. It was until the Valiants took off the full court press was where they started to meteralize and score points and fi nally get ahead of the Buffs at the end of the second quarter. The White Buffaloes Carrie Hawes was outstanding during the game out scoring everyone with a total of 29 points, but even at that the Buffs were unable to contain the highly rated Valley Catholic team. It's no wonder why the Valiants were ranked No. 1, all season long is because of their consistant play as a team. This was the third time the Buffs met the Valley Catholic team and the third time they came away empty handed. The Valley Catholic team will enter the state tournament as the No. 1 seed from the Tri-Valley league. On the other hand the Madra White Buffaloes must meet the LaSalle Flcons for the No. 2, spot from the Tir-Valley league. On Tuesday night the Madra White Bufflaoes travel to Sherwood, Oregon to play the Falcons for the No. 2, seed. The LaSalle Falcons bullied their way past the Madras White Buffaloes Tuesday night in the Sherwood high school gym, to eliminate the White Buffaloes from state tournament play. The LaSalle Falcons were not to be denied as they came away with a 56-42 win to get the No. 2 seed birth at the state tournament which will be held in the Salem Armory starting March 7, to the 11th. In the regular league play the Ma dras White Buffs were able to defeat the LaSalle team quite handily. But during the district play-offs tilings were a little different. One of the big factors during the play-off game it was 6.2 Annie Ferguson who made the big difference as she scored a total off 1 9 points for the night. During the regiular league play she scored only 6 points or so. Ferguson was all over the place taking control of the rebounding and doing some fine scoring as she never did before. The Madras White Buffaloe leader Carrie Hawes done what she could but she couldn't do it all. She had quite a game even though she only had scored 1 3 points during the game. Hawes play has to be reconed with even with the loss for the bid for a state tourney birth. On the other hand the B uffs were not so consistent at foul shooting. Melissa Cavender was whistled for the limit of fouls and had to leave the game, in the third quarter. Other key players were in foul trouble most of the final quarters of the game. Scoring for the Buffs were Carrie Hawes 13, Ericka Christensen 13, M.
