USA Boxing team defeats Canada On February 5, 1994, the USA Boxing team defeated the team from Canada in a meet held the Ojibwa Casino Resort in Baraga, Michigan. This is the first USA Boxing International event that was held on an Indian Reservation and Indian Casino. Gym Rats take We The weekend of February 4-6, 1994 Big Rat and Lucy Suppah held the First Annual We BAAAD (We Battle Against All Alcohol and Drugs) Co-Ed Tournament for boys and girls 1 1 years and under. The tournament was held at the Community Center and gathered a lot of support from the families of youth who participated. There were twelve teams that entered and participated in the tournament. The tournament was put on for the kids of the community to participate in a competitive sport. As Big Rat commented, "Not all athletes are at the same caliber, but they're out there giving it their best. It doesn't look good when adults or other young athletes make fun of those who are not considered up to par. The idea is for the kids to enjoy themselves and the game. It takes time to develop." Taking the championship of the tournament was the Redmond "Gym Rats." Followed by runner-ups Columbia River "Chinooks." WMe Buffaloes down Mac Hi Pioneers The Madras White Buffaloes swept the week -end beating the Mac Hi Pioneers on Friday night and the Baker Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 12 and 13th. On Friday night it was the winner of that game who would be the leader of the standings of the COL stand ings, as each team had identical records going into the game of 4-2, in league play. When things quieted down a bit after the game the B uffaloes emerges the No. 1, team of the GOL. They evenged an earlier loss to the Pio neers on their home floor but it was a last m inute scoring that beat the Buffs. In the game it was the one who got the jump on the other early in the .game and thats just what the Buffs did. They jumped out to a good led on the Pioneers early putting the Pio Baker Bulldogs fall to Buffaloes They had only 6 two pointers for the game. Baker had 17 two pointers and one foul shot with three 3 pointers during the game. At the end of the first quarter the Buffs out scored the Baker Bulldogs 16-12, and during the second quarter Madras scoed 1 8 points and for Baker they only could get 7, to give the Buf faloes a 34-19 half time lead. In the third quarter the Bulldogs out scored the Buffs 11-7, and also in the final stanza the Bulldogs got 14 points while the Buffs could only get 1 1 points, but they were too far behind tomakeupthe necessary ground to overtake the Buf falo lead. Ring scored a total of 17 points, Jeremy Jacks 14, John Boyle 8, Phillip Miller 6, Ben Christensen 4, Jake Suppah 3, and Jason Saxton. , Clausnitzerscored 14 points as high scorer for Baker, Burk 9, Wheeler 9,' Kelsey 6, Patrik4,Ericksen 2, Bloomer, Black. '. On Feb. 18 and 19, the Buffs make BAAAD tourney place was won by Muckleshoot "Bad Bulls." Taking fourth place was the Simnasho "Vols." Sportsmanship trophy went to the Warm Springs "Lil Bears." The High Scorer award was awarded to Steven Tias of the "Baby Bears" team. Mr. Hustle was Tom Courbille of Muckleshoot "Bad Bulls." Miss Hustle went to Sarah Belgard, who played for the Columbia River ''Chinooks." Mr. MVP was Shane Blodgett, and Mrs. MVP was Janna Young both of Redmond "Gym Rats." The All Stars of the tournament were: Tammy Courbille and Missy Henderson both of Muckleshoot "Bad Bulls"; Jacoby Ellsbury of the Blackhawks; Allen Jackson and Shamona Charley both playing for Simnasho; Nicole Main of the "Oregon Express"; Tony Gilbert, Jr. of "We BAAAD I"; Odessa Jones of "Lil Bears"; Jeffrey Fross and Jo Jo Youngof Redmond "Gym Rats"; and Phyllis Sanders and Floyd Frank, Jr. both of Columbia River "Chinooks " 1 neers on the catch-up situation and as the first quarter came to an end the Buffs were up 19-8. In the second quarter it was a defensive struggle as neither team could explode on the offensive. Mac Hi managed to get 5 points while the White Buffaloes were limited to only 3 points, but with the big lead the Buffs built up in the first quarter paid off as the Buffs held the lead going into the intermission where they led 22-13. In the third quarter the Buffs found the range once again but the scrappy Pioneer team hung right in there giving the Buffs all they could handle. Jake Suppah did an great job in get ting the ball down the floor under heavy pressure put on by the Pioneer press defense. Jake had an all around good night setting up plays darting in their final swing east to meet Nyssa and Ontario. On the following week they wind up their regular season host ing the Hilanders of Burns, on Feb. 24. On Saturday night the Buffaloes did what they done the night before and that was to et the early lead and hold on the rest of the way for the victory. The Baker Bulldogs a highly rated team who have had their ups and downs this season were un-able to overtake the Buffs from their first two quarter serge. One of their best performances was hitting 16 of 19 foul shots at the charity stripe. Jeremy Jacks had the hot hand at the foul line as he was 8 for 8. If they had missed at least half of their Martial Arts classes continue to be held Wednesdays and Fridays at the Community Center Youth classes are held from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Adult classes are held from 8:00-9:00 p.m. Learn to defend yourself against an attacker. Join in for physical fitness as well. Scott member ofJ.C. V.C. Roselynne Scott Thirteen year old Roselynne Scott is an eighth graderat Madras Junior High School. Her parents are Sony a Scott of Warm Springs and Troy Kaska of Arizona. She is currently a member of the Jefferson County Volleyball Club which began in December of last year. Her experience in volleyball began when she made the school team. She filled out an application for the J.C.V.C and paid $200 to join. The team coach is Kelly Azich. They practice Sunday's and Tuesday's of each week. The other members of the team include; Erin Barnes, Katie Christansen, Heather Espenel, Sherie Johnson, Breann Luther, Katie Marstin, Rebecca McClare, and out keeping the Pioneers on their toes all night long. At the end of the third quarter the Buffs in command by the score of 37-26. In the final quarter the Mac Hi Pioneers made their run at the Buffs but were unable to over take the huge lead the Buffs built up early in the game. Mac Hi scored 19 points to 17 for the Buffs. When the final horn sounded the Buffs were ahead to win the game and re-claim the led in the GOL standings with the final score of 54-45. Phillip Miller scored 17, Ben Christensen 15, Jake Suppah 8, K.C. Ring 7, Jermey Jacks 3, Jason Saxton 3, and John Boyle. For the Pioneers Parks scored 17, Meza 9, White 8, Irving 8, Brown 4, Dohrman 2, Peraza 2, Chester. foul shots it would have been a differ entball game. Many coaches say games can be won or lost at the foul line. On the other hand Baker was 1 of 4 at the foul line. The three point scoring really took its toll on the Baker Bulldogs as the Madras White Buffaloes burned the nets for8 of those 3 pointers. K.C. Ring accounted for four of them John Boyle had two and Ben Christensen 1 and Jake Suppah 1 . The Bull dogs collected only three for the game. It was a game of scoring the three pointers and at the foul line for the WhiteBuffs astheycompiledatotalof 8 three pointers and 16 at the foul line. They have participated in a couple tournaments so far, January 29 30 they were awarded first in the consolation bracket and February 6 they placed third in the Culver tourney. They have three tourneys yet to attend, which include; Madras Tourney, February 26, Yakima March 5-6, and Redmond March II The team will then be heading to Forest Grove for Regkmals Marchl9-20.TheClub will be holding a big yard sale "White Elephant Sale" this weekend at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
