Warm Springs. Oregon Spilyay Tymoo Editorial E Coosfa EEWA (The way it is) Letters to the Editor PAOE 4 May 15, 1992 .0 Riots, riots, riots; Today wc read or all kinds of riots, which makes a person wonder if ihcy arc ' justifiable or not. Makes a person wonder if certain groups of people just wait for such things as the Rodney King case to come along and start a riot. A riot claiming racism, police brutality. The beating of the motorist in Los Angeles by four White Police men who were acquitted of charges of beating a black mo torist. The King case gave no alterna tive but to make some people think its okay for police to stop motor ists and beat the stuffings out of them. Well the whole country saw what happened on T.V., of the beating of King as he lay on the highway, one standing with his foot on his head the others hitting and kicking him. Makes a person wonder what these four policemen feel like now after all that's happened? Like Macho men, or do they feel as tiny as a mouse? Another thing is, why did they move the trial to an all white district? Did they already have the verdict reached before hand and to be safe? What can be said to ease tension among minority groups regarding police brutality, injustice, defeat and despair. Yep! the Rodney King case in Los Angeles did stir up quite a commotion. People ask, "What would happen if the four policemen were Black and the motorist White? They'd probably be suspended and given jail time. Some mention the rape case of world Champion Mike Tyson, who was charged with rape and found guilty and is now serving time in prison. While on the other hand William Kennedy Smith, a white was acquitted of similar charges. This is an indication where many minority groups can come to the conclusion that it's an issue of racism. What about the Constitution and Bill of Rights, of people being treated fairly and with respect. It looks like the system doesn't work for the Minority in any case. Well let's all hope the whole thing clears up without any more deaths and destruction of valuable property, put a muzzle on prejudice cops. Who's to judge on what's right or wrong on any kind of situation concerning different races? Some say everyone hasn't seen both sides of the King case, but no matter what happened it shouldn't have taken 57 blows by one cop on a downed person while the other three got in their blows and kicks.
