V-Ball tourney draws top teams A co-ed volleyball tournament was held Saturday, January 18 at the Warm Springs Community Center in memory of Rodney Mitchell. Fourth place winner went to Pendleton, Oregon who received t shirts and a trophy for their efforts. Warm Springs Tribes II was third and received crew neck sweatshirts and a team trophy. The 1992 runner up was Warm Springs Tribes I who were awarded hooded sweatshirts and a trophy. The winner of the tourna ment went to the Sandspikers, who were given a first place trophy and championship jackets. Allstars were awarded to each of the following who received Puget Sound bucks champs The Kah-Nee-Ta 30 & Over all- Indian basketball tournament held January 10-12 at the Warm Springs Community Center showed to be full of action as it consisted of 10 teams. Results of the tournament were as follows; the host team, Kah-Nee-Ta took fourth place and were awarded T-shirts. Chiloquin, Oregon was third as they received pullover sweatshirts. The runner-up team was Satus, Washington who were given hooded sweatshirts. And the 1992 champions were the Pugit Sound Bucks of Tacoma, Washington and they were awarded championship jackets for their effort. The all-stars were as follows; from Chiloquin Jason Ray and Dave Rivard. Pugit Sound all-stars were, Next home Basketball game Sat. Jan. 25th W . Max Mitchell and Juliane Smith were the all stars from Tribes I while Tonya Mitchell, Deanie Smith, and Gorky Mitchell were given allstars from Tribes I. The Sand Spikers team allstars were Ogie Maruame, and Carol Miller who re ceived allstars along with a Most Valuable Player award. Vesta Hudson was also given an allstar. The sportsmanship trophy and vol leyball was presented to the Warm Springs Raiders. Mike. Jordan and Kirbv Veaux. Jav Keys and Gary Pierce of Satus were all-stars, along with Austin Greene and Dion Smith of Kah-Nee-Ta. All star player from Macy's was Tom Kathrein and Frank Ball from 4 Winds, each received an all-star jacket. Other awards given were Mr. Hustle which was awarded to Elliot Jackson of White S wan who received a gym bag. Most Valuable Player was Randy Johnson of Pugit Sound who was given a sweatshirt. And the sportsmanship award was given to the 4-Winds. Other teams playing throughout the weekend were the Valley Panthers of Granger, Wash ington, Portland, Oregon and Levi's 501s of Warm Springs. with Nyssa ... JMMtel cUmpio-ship, Smrda, Warm Springs, Oregon Buff girls The Madras eirls varsity basketball team made a sweep over their Greater Oregon League opponents over the week-end to give them a 3 win 1 loss record for the season so far. The two wins puis them in second place in league standings behind the Ontario Tigers who are the only team to beat the Buffs so far this year. On Friday night the Baker City Bulldogs made the scene and perhaps at the wrong time as the Madras White Buffs stampeded ova them by the score of 85-57. After the first quarter the teams traded basket for basket and the score was pretty even, but in the second quarter the Buffs went on a little point scoring spree getting a total of 26 points while the Baker team could only get 1 2 mints. This was where the Buffs made their move on the visitors and as the Girls top Hilanders 57-46 On Saturday the girls were on the road where they traveled to meet the Burns Hilanders on their home court and came away with the big win. Falling way behind in the opening quarter the Madras girls had their work cut out for them and having to play catch-up where they trailed at the end of the first quarter by the score of 17 1 1 . By the time the half time came they were on the short end by the score of 29-23, and things were just not looking good at all. No matter what they did they just couldn't get things going. In the third period the girls came Buff Girls romp Nyssa Tb Madras White Buffalo girls varsity basketball team opened up league play on the road when they traveled to meet the Nyssa Bulldogs and the Ontario Tigers on January 10,11,1992. On Friday night the Buff gals ran rough shod over the Nyssa team beating them 97-22, on their home court, as all the girls saw plenty of action during the game. Everyone got on the scoring end during the game with Heather Clowers and Margie Durette each getting 14 points apeice for high honors. Becky Dodsod ana Micnene oimuicmi. Ontario hands On Saturday night things were a little different as the Buff girls dropped a close game to the host Ontario Tigers by the score of 63-57, giving them a 1-1 record in league play. Right from the beginning the Buff s couldn't get things going as they fell behind by quite a margin and had a time playing catch up the rest of the game. The Ontario Tigers kept the pressure on the Buffs throughout the game and wouldn't let them catch up. Several times the Buffs came with-in striking distance but they were turned away and were unable to get the lead away. The Ontario girls were determined to keep the lead to them selves and deny the win for the Buffs. In the final period the Buffs were pretty much in command out scoring the Baker Bulldogs 19-7, and cruise on in for the win. Becky Dodson scored 24 points, Michelle Simmclink 20, Laura Sahme 16 Margie Durrctte 10,Folu6, Kirsch 5, Clowers 2, Macy 2, Allen and Duff. Shcchon led the Baker scoring with 24, Baxter 14, Mausan 8, Johnson 6, Bloomer 2, Porter 2, Curry 2, Mark 1. The season is still in the early stages with another round to go with all the teams and things can change at any moment storming back to out score the Hilanders 14-4 and gain the lead and in the final stanza the Buffs went on a 20 point scoring spree and the Hilanders could only get 13 to give the Buffs a 57-46, big win on the road. Road trips are always tough to come by.Dodson scored 23, Simmclink 15, Foltz 6, Durette 5, Allen 4, Sahme 2, Clowers 2.. Scoring for the Hilanders was Shcchon 15,Batcs6,Boyles8,Dobson 12, Harris 3, Jordcn 2, Dick, Thomas Hul1- , , This win gives the Buffs a 3 win 1 loss record in the GOL standings up to dale. each contributed 12 points apeice and Laura Sahme 10 as there were five girls in double figures during the game. Arlinda Duff added 9 points, Shirley Allen 8, Allison Kirsch 8, Jennifer Runge 4, Luann Foltz 3, Alyssa Macy 3. For the host team Langley was the leading scorer with 9 points, Newman 6, Shipp 3, Fredricksen 2, Casod 1. The teams were unevenly matched and it was a long night for the Nyssa team, dispite the long trip that the Buff gals had taken during the day getting there. Buffs defeat Simmelink aoded 16, Durette 7, Sahme 5, Foltz 3, Allen 2, Duff, Runge and Clowers. Ross was the top scorer for the Tigers with a total of 21, Nichelson 12, Brighamn 8, Walton 8, Brandt 7, Ray, Hall Things just were not going the way the Buff girls would like to have had it, but the loss leaves them with the 1-1 league record no matter what..
