Treatment
questionable
To the Editor,
i
I believe we have a very serious
problem in our reservation. And it
concerns the treatment of some of
our people that have to go to our
clinic for medical treatment or oth
er reasons.
We are told take this medication
go home and rest. But not until we
are forced to go to a hospital, do we
discover the seriousness of our med
ical problem. And in some cases its
too late. Our doctors in our clinic
are insensitive to our medical prob
lems, we need a change and now!!

One Sunday a farmer went to church. When he entered he and the
preacher were the only ones there. The preacher asked the farmer if
he wanted him to go ahead and preach. The farmer said, "I'm not
too smart, but if I went to feed my cattle and only one showed up,
I'd feed him." One hour passed, then two, two and a half hours.
The preacher finally finished and
the sermon. The farmer answered,
I went to feed the cattle and only
feed him all the hay." YIKES

Hospitality
To the Editor,
During The Dalles area Cherry
Festival last month, we read in
your paper of the invitation to
attend the salmon bake at Celilo.
Cold winds and events running late
greeted my husband and I and my
70-ycar-old parents that Sunday,
so, along with many other non
Indians, we slipped inside the Long
house. Inside the small ceremonial
lodge, we stood listening quietly to
the singing and drumming and

The people of Celilo then truly

welcome and a part of the tradi

explained the meaning of the tradi

helped us appreciate the time and
care of food preparation that had
been going on for days. With pride,
elders explained the importance of
their young men and women who
had fished and gathered roots, and
who were now serving the meal.
We appreciated the careful way the
food was distributed around the
room and the gentle methods par

growing aroma of baked salmon

before us filling up with heaping
bowls of food. We shared with the

We did not know who to thank
