Docs everyone have similar
problems as Spilyay Tymoo
around here? One of the biggest
problems is trying to get through
to other departments. Com
munication seems to be one of
the biggest downfalls and peo
ple don't want to get into the
act.
There have been several meet
ings with all department heads
and it appears that everyone is
willing to do his "Thing." Well,
that's as long as the chairman
has the gavel in hand. But just
as soon as the meeting is over
and everyone leaves they fall
back into the same old rut or
settle back in his shell once
again and things continue as
they were before.
People are afraid to speak up.
Some look as though they are afraid of their own shadows. They
are afraid they might say the wrong thing. There are several
projects going on around here that the tribal members might be
interested in, seeing what's happening and what's going on in this
organization.
Several calls are made trying to get information on various
projects or other incidents that take place but it seems that when
they find out it's Spilyay Tymoo they find all the reasons to avoid
talking or giving any information. They usually tell the secretary
that they are tied up at the moment and will call back as soon as
they are free.. .Ha! Does the phone ring on this end?... You guessed
it Nope. But if anything goes wrong and Spilyay Tymoo is on the
"Hot Seat," the supervisors come back and say, "All they had to do
was give us a call !"
The run-around or passing the buck, that seems like it's the way
to go. If there was a contest on passing the buck around here it
would be a tough job for the judges. Well, maybe I should just
worry about the little things, like what's happening in Iran, East
and West Berlin 'n stuff like that and let everyone else worry about
what's taking place here. "NIGH or MISH UN-CHA."

Apology extended

To the People of Warm Springs,
I would like to apologize to the
people of Warm Springs for violat

Order Code, Chapter 350 Section
530.520 (3) Ceremonial hunt in a
closed area.
Late last year I was involved in a
ceremonial hunt off the reserva
tion. I was arrested by the Oregon
State Game Officer for hunting in
an area that was closed to all hunt
ing. Since I was representing the
Tribe in the hunting I should have
made sure I was in the proper area
for the hunt. I didn't intentionally
hunt in a closed area. At the time I
thought I was in thepropcrarca for
the hunt. This case created a lot of
talk and could have caused prob
lems for the Tribes and for this rea
son I apologize to the people. I
would never intentionally jeopard
ize any of the Tribes Treaty Rights
by breaking any law.
TSiank you,
Andrew David,

Being number I in any sport
activity knowing you did it, is a
great feeling. Some kids never get

grateful to the parents for their

I've seen the past 20 vears of
working and coaching youth pro
grams, Problems some coaches go
through when they've got no con
trol, meaning sideline family inter
ference. It makes their jobs that
much tougher teaching the kids the
game. When you try pleasing ev
eryone you end up no where, I've
learned that in the past years of
coaching. "Now I've got my set
rules."
The only ones that get hurt are
the kids, especially when they're
willing to learn, and want to play
the game, "People have to remem
ber most coaches, are volunteers,
and are not getting paid, and
should at least be given the con

Guests enjoyed Pi-Ume-Sha
To the editor,
To the people of Warm Springs,
My daughter and I were guests at
your Treaty Days Pi-Ume-Sha. I
would like to thank all of you for
such friendship extended towards
us. The breakfasts' at the Long
