The school free physicals will be given by the Madras Medical Group, Friday, September 1 1. Any seventh grader or new eighth grader interested in participating in sports should plan to take a physical on the 1 1 th. Eighth graders must have their Health Inventory Form com pleted and turned into the nurse. We will hand out the physical forms the first day of school. Football practice for eighth graders began Wednesday Septem ber 9 at 3:30. Football practice for seventh graders began Thursday September 10 at 3:30. Anyone inte rested in participating in football should plan to attend the first prac tice day. There is no special equip ment required the first day. Volleyball practice will begin Sep tember 14, at 3:30. No special equip ment is required. Maintain a passing grade in all seven classes. B. Pass a physical exam or have a current Health Inventory com pleted and on file with the nurse; and C. Maintain passing conduct in classes, during games and after games. Students eligibility will be checked school year by filling out an appli cation available at all schools. Keeping camp in order ladies carry at the end of each grading period (report cards) and at midterm. Students who are declared aca demically ineligible at the end of the grading period will have two weeks to become eligible. If at the end of two weeks the student is still not eligible they will be removed from the team, so they can concen trate on their classwork. At midterm if a student is declared ineligible they will be removed from the team so they can devote their time to improving their academic performance. To restore their eligibility a stu dent must: A. Conference with the teacher, or teachers in the classes they are not passing and, B. Obtain a written note from the teacher stating that they are passing. This note must be turned in to the Athletic Director. Athletes may be disciplined by the appropriate coach for violation of either the district athletic code or the specific training rules estab lished by the head coach. Such rules and penalties will be distrib uted and explained to the students prior to each season by the indi vidual head coaches. Student athletes are admonished to conduct their lives and their par ticipation in accordance with the ideals of good sportsmanship, team and school loyalty, achievement through effort and sacrifice, and development of team and school morale. Because it is a privilege to participate in athletics, student athletes must assume certain obli gations and responsibilities beyond those set for students in general. The following rules and regulations pertain to student athletes partici pating in the athletic program at Madras High School and Madras Junior High School. 1.0 Student athletes are prohi bited from using illegal drugs, nar cotics, tobacco or intoxicating beve rages, and behaving in a manner that violates the ideals of good sportsmanship, team and school loyalty, achievement through effort -f r. r Warm Springs BIA forester and tne Whitewater fire with incident chips to coat floor of wash area. and sacrifice, development ol team and school morale, or any other behavior that creates a negative influence or image on any athletic program. When it is determined that a violation has occurred dur ing the attendance or participation in any school sponsored activity, or when under the supervision of a District staff member, or when on District buildings and grounds, the student athlete will be suspended from athletics as follows: 1.1 First offense The student athlete will be suspended from the athletic program for the current season. 1 .2 Second offense The student athlete will be suspended from the athletic program for the remainder of the current school year. 2.0 When it is determined that a violation as above has occurred, but not during a school sponsored event, orunderthesupervision of a district staff member or on District buildings and grounds, the student athlete will be suspended from athle tics as follows: 2.1 First offense Punishment will be determined by the approp riate head coach and Activities Director after a conference with the student and whenever possible the parent guardian. The minimum penalty will be suspended from the following two inter-scholastic contests. i. 2.2 Second offense The student 'will be suspended from the athletic program for the current season. 2.3 Third offense The student athlete will be suspended from the athletic program for the remainder of the current school year. 3.0 Unsportsmanlikeconduct will not be tolerated. Gross unsports manship conduct as determined by the coach and activities director may be considered under I.I above. 4.0 A student athlete who misses practice must make arrangement to be excused with the head coach. Excep tions may be made if the absence was due to a school activity or if the absence is approved by the Princi pal or his designee. 6.0 An unexcused absence from an athletic contest will cause dis missal from the team. Exceptions to this punishment will be deter mined by the appropriate head coach and the Activities Director after a conference with the student and whenever possible, the parentguardian. 7.0 If a student athlete desires to change sports during a season in progress, heshe may do so only with the consent and approval of both head coaches and the Activity Director. The approval of the head coach of the sport from which he she is dropping must be obtained first. 8.0 Parents and guardians of student athletes are encouraged to attend a meeting explaining the responsibilities and training poli cies of Madras High School stu dent athletes. 9.0 Student athletes must meet all eligibility requirements set by buildings, the District Board, and the Oregon School Activities Asso ciation. 10.0 All athletes must have on file a certificate of physical exami nation and parent consent prior to participation in any sport includ ing practice. 1 1.0 Student athletes are not insured by the District while partic ipating in practices or contests. The parent guardian and' or stu dent athletes must assume finan cial obligations due to injury or accident resulting from a athletic participation. 12 0 The administration of the rules above are subject to the rights of due process and students will be afforded the-ame ngM a guaran teed in the disciplinar process elsewhere in District Policy, rules and regulations.
