All the basketball programs are super but all the kids can't make the varsity team, just the 10 or so and that leaves all the rest of the kids twiddling their fingers with nothing to do. What we do really need is programs in wrestling for the kids at an earlier age like some other schools. There are a lot of potentials for a good wrestling team around but because these kids were never exposed to wrestling earlier they don't take interest in high school. Each year Crook County is a power house in wrestling and arc well represented in each meet they attend. They are always well represented in state each year. That's because they have a wrestling program for their youngsters at an early age. There is no reason why this couldn't happen around here. There could be some tough competitors around here if only the sport were introduced the the kids at an earlier age. Spealts" Now that all the winter sports arc all tucked away for another year in all the schools we look forward to the spring sports, such as softball and track. At this point I would like to look back and view what we have here in Central Oregon. For one thing we have a good basketball program each year for the youngsters. It all starts out from the Kiwanis basket ball program for the 8 year olds and up and from there they move into Jr. High for the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams. Also in the Jr. High, if the boys and girls can't make the travel ing team there is the intramural basketball for the rest of the kids. By the time they all get into high school the picking gets 13 and under boys & girls open BB tourney Mens & womens player Memorial BB tourney Buckskin Gloves Boxing championship Easter Egg Hunt NIAA Mens and Womens basketball tourney Ness Tygh Valley rodeo is To the Editor, The purpose of this letter is to stop rumors that the All Indian Rodeo in Tygh Valley is not taking place this year. That is certainly not true. We are going on as strong as ever. Thanks for memorable event To the Editor, In commemoration of the com pletion of their beautiful new market in Simnasho, Frank and Russell Charley, Jr. hosted a long and meaningful day of activities on March 21, combining the tradi tional and new in ceremonies, food and music. As a Madras resident, I am once Roadrunners To the Editor, The wait was well worth the effort for the Northwest Roadrun ners to defend their 1983 title as champions of the seventh annual Magpies Six-foot and under tour nament. The team was never invited back to defend the title after 1983. The team was informed just days before the tournament that they were included in the tournament. It was difficult to contact players for commitment. . .were very fortu nate to get the players we did. The team roster include Bob Main, James Cabontoy, Jeff Greene, James Scott, Rick Gallegos, Larry Scott and Suppah. We had a very tough schedule, but that's the name of the game, good rough competition. We fig ured as a team, that once we got by the competition, we were there. Our only concern was the refe reeing, which is supposed to be the neutral party on the court. But that never seems to be the case, espe cially when playing the host team. Unfair refrerring really hurts the tournament and makes teams not want to return. We do thank Aus tin Greene for inviting us this year. Whether we get invited back and get seated with a BYE as thedefend ing champs, we will have to wait until next vear's tournament. You never get improvement, as a player or a team, by playing the easy teams every year. When you do come up against competition, the team will fold in defeat a major ity of the time. We don't win them Quotefrom Abdu'l Baha "O thou kind Lord! Thou has created all humanity from the same stock. Thou has decreed that all shall belong to the same house hold. In thy holy presence they are all Thy servants, and all mankind are sheltered beneath Thy taberna cle; all have gathered together at Thy table of bounty; all are illum ined through the light of Thy provi dence. "O God! Thou are kind to all, thou has provided for all, dost shel ter all, conferrest life upon all. Thou has endowed each and all with talents and faculties, and all are submerged in the ocean of Thy mercy. "O thou kind Lord! Unite all. Let the religions agree and make the nations one, so that they may see each other as one family and the whole earth as one home. May they all live together in perfect harmony. "O God! Raise aloft the banner of the oneness of mankind. "O God! Establish the most great peace. "Cement thou, O God, the hearts together. "O thou kind father, God! Glad den our hearts through the fra grance of Thy love. Brighten our As a promotion this year the Tywama Saddle Club of Tygh Val ley will sell advance tickets to groups of ten or more for $3.50 which is S 1 .30 less than gate price. Also, the person who organizes the group gets two free tickets, to come see the All Indian Rodeo first hand. The price for kids is still $2 and again inacDiea, as many oi us irom another culture are indebted, to the people of Warm Springs for their warmth and generosity in sharing their ancient heritage. My life is immeasurably enriched by this cul ture whose roots and values are as valid as my own. With appreciation, Irene Conroy win tourney all, but we sure have fun trying. We use our defeats as a stepping stone and a learning experience. In a majority of the tournaments, we were in the competitive brackets which is great for our players. We have grown as a team and we have learned to never under estimate or degrade anyone. No one has all the talents. Like every other organization, you can be good, but the leadership can go stale or bad. That's when it's time for a change and try to build things back up again. The results of our games were as follows: We defeated The Dalles Blackwolf team by 74-52; defeated White Swan in three over times by a score of 70 to 65; and we defeated the Warm Springs Tribes team by a score of 94 to 7 1 . All-stars from our team were Rick Gallegos, Bob Main and James Scott. Most Valuable Player was James Scott. Tony "Big Rat" Suppah Get involved in solutions Are you willing to help us make some changes in the ways things are being dealt with now? There was an intrinsic meaning to this event which brought people closer to their Crea tor. I thank the people that put so much effort into this festival, and shared it with us all. The Indian people are very spir itual, though this is not to say oth ers are not. There can be no doubt whatever that the people of the world, of whatever race or religion, derive their inspiration from one heavenly source and are the sub jects of one god.
