One hundred and twenty-four
students were honored at gradua
tion ceremonies held May 31 at
Madras High School. The young
men and women sat among hun
dreds of friends and relatives during
an hour long program.
The heat of the day made the
gymnasium look alive as graduates
and audience fanned themselves in
the 101 degree temperature. Many
graduates wore shorts and cooler
clothing under robes rather than
traditional dresses and slacks.
After the processional of graduates
an invocation was presented by
Father Leo F. Weckerle. The
Madras High choir then sang, fol

Self-managers given special privileges
Self-managers are students who
are responsible and are able to
work and play without teacher
supervision. Throughout the school
year students who were able to
achieve the level of self-managers
were given special privileges inclu
ding field trips and activities.
Students could lose their self
manager status but were given an
opportunity to regain it within a
week. Many students retained their
self-manager position throughout
the year.

A special ceremony preceded
presentation of diplomas to the

mates joined the military that year.
He never graduated.

Links had learned lessons deserving
a high school diploma. As he sat
through the remainder of the cere

diploma word by word.
Students, then, received their
diplomas, each showing the serious
ness of the event, and each beaming
with pride.
