Smith Putting a,rodeo on involves many hours of hard work and coordina tion, and this year, putting the tenth annual Pi-Ume-Sha rodeo together, included, literally, putting the rodeo arena together., Ori June 4, 1985, Tribal resolution #6900 was passed by the Tribal Co,uncil. The resolu tion approved the land assignment for the new rodeo grounds at the Warm Springs Industrial Park on highway 3, 1 ne Warm Springs'Rodeo Asso ciation then began thejob of prepar ing the ground fpr the new arena. The new arena was erected by the members of the association despite the short time, On Saturday, Jund 22 the grounds were ready for contestarits and spe- •ca^atofs'- alike. ■ jQ p y e ln y W Sc A tiveh an d form er Assistant Secretary of Interior Ken Smith joined to cut the ribbon to the new rodeo facilities. The two-day show paid tribute to four past rodeo members. Byron" Patt, Leland Tom, Matt Wewa and Troy Smith. The four former asso ciation members passed away in regent years. A raffle was held to raise money for the Troy Smith MemoriaTScho;, ldrship at Southern Oregon College at Ashland. A Byron Patt Memorial saddle was given to the top roper of the two day show. Winning the saddle w^s Jr. Adams of Yakima, Washington, Also presented was the Matt Wewa memorial buckle to the top bronc rider, Vince Garcias of Lee, Nevada. The weather could have been termed “h o tan d cold” as on Satur day, thd temperature was in the low 90s while on Sunday the tempera ture dropped to the low 70s.
