A portable electric heater can help you curb energy costs when used wisely. Such a heater allows you to turn down the central thermostat while providing heat only When and where it’s needed. Several portable radiant heater models are available with a reflector that beams out heat from the heating elements without heating the air itself. These usually work best as localized heaters to heat people or objects directly, rather than heating an entire room. Most heaters are unlikely to cause serious burns when touched on the outside. Safety is a very important consideration When shopping for a portable heater. A pat on the back fo r kids To the Editor, I would like to thank the people who took the time to help make our Warm Springs PTA table a success at the Christmas Bazaar. Whether it was your time you donated to help, or items made, it was greatly appreciated and for an excellent purpose. Also, the Warm Springs E le m e n ta r y C h r is tm a s Program was terrific. The behavior of the young people is something to be proud of. The courtesy and respect given to my Aunt and Uncle by some teenage ladies was a beautiful thing to see. I see many outstanding children and I hope the people in their lives allow them to realize how great they are. Parrline Macy Warm Springs PTA Parent Use decorations carefully this season While fire safety is a year round practice, it must be in the forefront during the Christmas holiday season. These are some important tips to consider 1. Christmas tree lights should be inspected for frayed wires before placing on the tree. 2. Never leave open sockets on tree lights. Replace broken lights or cover sockets. Unplug lights before going to bed or leaving home. 3. Keep tree in a sugar water solution to avoid drying. 4. Avoid the use of candles except where completely safe. 5. Do not overload electrical outlets. 6. Inspect chair and sofa cushions for cigarette butts after guests leave. 7. Install smoke detectors or make sure your existing smoke detectors are working properly. 8. B uy a n A B C f ir e extinguisher. Pageant December 27 This year will mark the eleventh year for the Miss Warm Springs Pageant. The pageant will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 7 p.m. at the Agency Longhouse. The pageant will honor 1983 Miss Warm Springs, Lenora Starr who will end her reign with the crowning of Miss Warm Springs 1984. Other planned events of the evening pageant will be the judging of contestants, performances by Lil Miss Warm Springs 1983 representatives, introduction of former Miss Warm Springs’, and special recognition will be given to individuals, organiza tions, business establishments and committees (who have donated and helped with the pageant). The highlight of the evening will be the selection of the new Miss Warm Springs. The Pinegrove Jrs. will provide the drum for the pageant. Contestants for the pageant must be members of the Confederated Tribes. These young ladies will be judged on beauty, poise, personality, appearance, speaking ability, traditional knowledge, tribal historical knowledge, and talent.
