Spilyay Tymoo October 7,1983 Page 11 Locals headed for Nationals Two locals are going to the Indian National Finals Rodeo w hich w ill be h eld on November 10-13, 1983, in the T in g le y C o lis e u m , N ew Mexico State Fair Grounds, Albuquerque, New Mexico. A b r o th e r an d s is te r combination of Terry and C.R. Squiemphen will be making their bids for a world title. This will be Terry’s first appearance at the finals. He qualified for saddle b ro n c co m p etitio n ending up the season setting in s e c o n d p la c e o n p o in t standings in the Western States Indian Rodeo Association. This will - be C R ’s second appearance at the National Finals. She made her first trip in 1981, and this year finishing seco n d h ig h e s t in p o in t standings at the end of the season qualified her for the girls barrel racing event. At the end of the season contestants must finish in the top two positions in the rodeo’s six major events and barrel racing to qualify for the finals. True competitors both Terry and CR work hard at the rodeo game in their respective events an d all season long the competition is tough. But their high competitive spirit and determination is what paid off for them, and they will be c o m p e tin g w ith th e to p cowboys and cowgirls from throughout U.S. and Canada. The Regionals finals were held in Sparks, Nevada and the following individuals have qualified for the finals in each event. Bareback 1. Roy Begody Tuba City, Arizona and 2. Novice boxing tourney October 8-9 The 1983 Oregon Associa tion Novice Boxing tourna m ent, sanctioned by the Oregon A ssociation U SA/ ABF, and sponsored by the Vancouver Elks Boxing Club, will be held October 8-9, 1983, Saturday and Sunday. The tournament director is Bob Burns, 9912 N. Ridge Crest Avenue, Vancouver, Washing ton, 206-573-5062. The weigh-ins are at 8-10 a.m, physicals are from 9-11 a.m. the drawing is set for 11:15 a.m., with the elimination bouts starting at 1 p.m., the semi bouts at 7 p.m. and finals at 1 p.m. Sunday. The tourney will be held in the Marshall center Gym at 1009 East McLoughlin Blvd., Vancouver, Washington. An entry fee of $2 must accompany each application and each boxing club must provide their own authorized guaze, tape, 10 oz. gloves, head gear and form fitting mouth piece. All contestants must show his U SA /A B F card and proof of age with a birth certificate or immigration form. Failure to furnish proper documentation will eliminate contestant from competition. International Volleyball Oct. 21 W o m e n ’s i n t e r n a t i o n a l volleyball is scheduled for Friday October 21 at the M e m o r ia l C o lis e u m in Portland. General admission is $5.00.
