Crafts for seniors: Chenette Fischer will travel here from Metolius to teach people how to make a number o f different quick crafts. These ¿ferns may be used as give-away gifts, for bazaars or in the home. People who sign up may choose from a number of different items including, padded picture frames, pin cushions, barrets made of lace ribbon and flowers. The class, will be held for four, . two-hour sessions on Thursday, at the Senior building. The class is not limited to seniors and anyone in the community may join in. The class will require a total of 12 people. Fischer will be at the Senior Building at noon. March 25 to show samples of her work. Ukrainian eggs: Chenette Fischer has mastered the ancient art of egg decoration. During this one-day, six-hour class, she will lecture on the history and meaning of the designs used in this art form. For centuries in the Ukraine, decorated eggs have been taken to churches ,to be blessed on Easter morning. Designs are sym bolic: bands represent eternity, flowers stand for new life and growth, animals, such as deer or horses, are signs of prosperity. Fisher says that Indian designs could be beautifully incorporated in the wax and dye technique utilized. The eggs are often used to hang on Christmas trees. G r e e n h o u s e D e s ig n s : Instructor Dennis Staines, of Sisters, has received several awards for his greenhouse designs. He will impart to students a knowledge of basic solar concepts, as well as information on designing .and building a solar greenhouse. This is a one-night, three-hour class. The following week, a one- night, three-hour class called, G reen h ou se M an agem en t, instructor Martin Zimmerman, will be offered. This course will cover the fundamentals of g r e e n h o u se o p e r a tio n . Zimmerman will discuss types of greenhouses and CQldframes, climate control, soil manage ment, fertility and irrigation, insect and disease control and propagation. The cost for each of these classes is $3.00.
