Ike joins service
A family dinner was held in
October for Lavena Monica
Ike at her home in West Hills.
Lovie has joined the ladies
Armed Service and left for
Portland last month. She was
then shipped out to South
Carolina for 16 weeks of boot
camp.
She is due for leav° the third
week of December, at which
time she hopes to come home.
Following her leave she will be
stationed in Houston, Texas
for six years unless transferred
to another location.
She wishes to extend a
“hello” to all at home and let
everyone know she is enjoying
boot camp—but is a bit
homesick.
Three attempts were made to
rescue Alfred by the fire crew.
One the fourth try, when the
fire fighters located him, Wolfe
was “lifeless —he was not
breathing and there was no
pulse,” said Huff. Wolfe was
rescued from the second floor
room through a window and
down a ladder.
Once Wolfe was outside,
EMTs administered CPR,
oxygen and started an I.V.
Wolfe was stabalized at Mt.
View and later transported to
St. Charles Medical Center in
Bend, where he is listed in
“fairly good” condition.
“Our guys did a fantastic job
in saving his (Wolfe’s) life,”
said Huff. He also said that the
doctors commended the crew
for their “professionalism. Had
it not been for that, Wolfe
wouldn’t be alive. He had a
very high amount of carbon
monoxide in his blood and
lungs,” said Huff.
Cause of the Wolfe fire has
not been determined, but it was
“probably caused by a fireplace
insert,” said Huff. Huff
estimated that about 80% of the
Wolfe’s personal belongings
were lost and the house was
probably 85% destroyed, “It’s
gutted. The garage and lower
level are still intact, but there’s
a lot of water damage.”
The family has expressed the
need for clothes. One boy wears
size 5 slim pants and size 8 T-
shirt and another boy wears
size 29-32 pants and medium
shirts. Two girls also need
clothes. One girl wears size 14
slim pants and size 16 girls size
blouse. The other girl wears
size 14 misses size pants and
size 16 blouse.
Doris wears size 16 pants and
size 38 blouse and Alfred wears
size 34-34- pants and a large
shirt. All donations can either
be taken to the Baptist Church
or given to Pat Speakthunder
or Norma Smith.
Both fires are still under
investigation.
