March 26,1982 Paga 11 HB Spilyay Tymoo Police sponsor pro-wrestling Big time wrestling is coming to Warm Springs. Wrestlers from Saturday night wrestling of KPTV fame, will be at the Community Center on April 25 to show Warm Springs what wrestling is all about. The Warm Springs Peace O ffic e rs A s s o c ia tio n is sponsoring this event with p r o c e e d s g o in g to w a r d scholarships for two top tribal high school graduates. The matches begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 25. Ringside seats are going at $7.00, and general admission for adults will be $6.00. For senior citizens, students with student body cards, and children 14 years-old and under, admission will be $4.00. Tickets are available now at the Police Station. The sponsors are seeking volunteers of high school age to sell tickets for the event. Interested persons may contact Rick Souers. Concessions will be sold by the Pi-Ume-Sha Committee. March 24-27 Yakima to sponsor tourney The 27th Annual Yakima Nation All-Indian Invitational Basketball T ournam ent is scheduled for this first week of spring at the Wapato Senior High school gymnasium „in W apato, Washington. The to u rn am en t is recognized throughout the Northwest as an arena for highly-skilled and competitive teams. Teams attracted to the Yakima Valley are traveling from as far away as Lawrence, Kansas and include semi-local O re g o n T r a v e le r s . T h e tournament hosts and Yakima N ation representatives, as determined by reservation p la y -o ffs, are the S atu s Cowboys. Other confirmed teams for the 12-team confrontation include, Davis C alifornia; Vermillion, South D akota; Colville, Washington; Lodge Grass, Montana; Browning, M ontana; A rtie K nights, S e a ttle , W ash in g to n ; St. Stevens, Wyoming; Nez Perce Nation, Lapwai, Idaho; and the Coup Counters of Kyle, South Dakota. Championship finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 27, at 8 p.m. Vermillion, South Dakota will be defending their championship title for the sixth consecutive year. Boxers go to prison The Warm Springs Police Boxing Club was escorted by their coaches, R on Govenor and Frank Smith fo r a match at the Oregon State Penitentiary on March 20. Traveling with the club were Casey Smith, Corey Smith, Cecil Govenor, Mervin Govenor, Jerry Sam, GuyHerkshan, and Tyron Smith. Casey boxed exhibition, while Cecil chalked up a win. Guy won by a knockout over M ike Edinger o f the OSP club. Coach Govenor was proud o f his chib and was pleased with the experience gained in participating in the match. Albany is the next site fo r Police Boxing club action on the week-end of the 27th. J Buckskin tournament draws Northwest boxers T he B u c k sk in B o x in g Tournament held March 13 and 14 at the Warm Springs Community Center was a great s u c c e s s , a c c o r d i n g to coordinator Gerald Smith. Besides having many visitors at the tournament several Warm Springs boxers took home trophies making it even more of a success. G o rd o n M onk, Tacoma; Heavyweight Melvin Richey, Knott Street. Outstanding boxers were selected by a com m ittee appointed by the boxing officials. Guy Herkshan was also given the Sportsmanship award. The team trophies went to: 1st—Kelso and 2nd—Tacoma.
