Page 4 March 12,1982 Editorial E Coosh EEWA (The way it is) Letters to the editor A job well done! Historical society seeks info Dear Delbert Frank, Sr., Hop agriculture has played a major role in the history of the Central Willamette Valiev. The Benton County Historical Society is presently involved in a major effort to record this history. As I stated in an earlier letter, which I hope you received, we are interested in presenting as comprehensive a picture as possible of the hop industry. We plan to conduct a limited number of oral interviews and to survey a larger number of informants by questionaire. It it is our understanding that Indians from Warm Springs area have been invovled in the past with the production of h o p s , p a r t i c u l a r l y as harvesters. We would like to include a record of their experiences in our study. We ask your assistance in making the members of your community aware of our project. We are enclosing several forms to be filled out by anyone who has had experience with the hop agriculture and who is interested in contribut ing to the study. Completed forms should be returned to the museum as soon as possible. The project will result in a narrated slide presentation to be given at Oregon State University on May 9th of this year. The public is invited to attend. We look forward to hearing from the Council and from members of your community. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give us. Sincerely, Kathleen Hudson Cooler Assistant Director (Editor’s Note: Copies of the one-page questionaire are available at the Spilyay Tymoo office and the Extension office, both in the old Administration building.) D.C. trip valuable for CHRs To the W arm Community, S p r in g s We’d like to take the time to thank the following people for making it, possible for us to attend the National CHR Conference in Washington, D.C. last month. All of us feel that our presence there, and our concern with the budget cuts, will have a great impact on the final decision. We met CHRs from all over the United States and Alaska and were in meetings from 8 to 5 everyday. There was not time for sight seeing though we did get one evening tour. The highlight of our trip was a testimonial in the Rayburn Building given by Felecia Hodge of the Northwest Indian Health Board. The exciting part was that she introduced us there. So, we’d like to thank the community for their support w ith th e $$, tim e and donations. The bigie we did ws the basketball game, which was a great success thanks to Delson and Chinn Suppah, who have been the backers for our tournaments over the past years.
