think the staff o f Spilyay
Tymoo isd o in g a very good jo b
in keeping the people informed.
Keep it up.
In closing I would like to
offer this poem and would
appreciate it if you would set
aside a small space in one o f the
future copies o f Spilyay Tymoo
and p rin t it because I feel it
does a little b it to in fo rm people
about w hat’s happening w ith a
lo t o f young Indians today. The
little o f this poem is To the
W hite M an but it can be to
anybody.
To the W hite M an
I am the tracks,
still following old buffalo trails,
I am a war cry,
which died last night and
cannot be heard today.
But,
thoughl read about the past,
and though I admire old stone
arrowheads,
and old broken teepee poles,
my tracks have long' since
stopped following the dead
buffaloes trails,
I walk these lonely cement
creek beds,
among these mighty canyon
walls,
and I am searching for my war
cry once again
I am a thing o f the past,
I am an old stone arrowhead,
I am an old broken teepee pole,

To whom it may concern,
desired. But this is par fo r the
course, considering the “ green
ness” o f my horse and the effect
the c a p a c ity c ro w d and
surroundings had on him. This
was actually his first pressure
competition and his first .long
distance trip out o f Sidwalter

third in the final go.
Hopefully we w ill be heading
back to the IN F R again, with
more experience under the belt

I am a Danish student and I
would like to have an Indian
penpal. I am very interested in
Indians and some weeks ago I
wrote a leter to the American
Embassy in Denmark. I asked
fo r some in fo rm a tio n on
Indians in America, and 1
received book-lists and other
inform ation.
Some days ago I also
received a letter from the
Bureau o f In d ia n A ffa irs

some good inform ation too,
e.g. a map over the reservation
in America. On the back o f that
map I found your address.
I hope that somebody w ill
write a letter to me, so that we
n o to n ly can be friends, but also
discuss the Indians’ problems.
It doesn’t m atter how old you
are; I w ouldn’t mind w riting a
letter to a 70 year old person,
as long as he/ she has the same
hope as I have: That the
Indians some day w ill have
better co n d ition s in th e ir
reservations.
Just so that you know: I ’m
almost 16 and I ’m a girl.
Sincerely yours,
