We hope to see all o f our kids soon and they are always welcome to come to our new home in Siletz. We felt a real loss fo r our kids upon parting. Sheilah, Irm a & Sincerely, M onica Wahnetah Community meeting planned Oct. 14 To the editor, I t ’s apparent that Council isn’t going to listen to the pleas o f the W arm Springs people, requesting Council grant us a g e n e ra l c o u n c il m e e tin g , c o n c e rn in g “ o u r ” T r ib a l Reorganization A ct, Resolu tion 6033, which places tw o non-tribal members and one tr ib a l m em ber in to very important top management positions. Since nobody on Council can hear the voice o f the people o f W a rm S p rin g s, w e’ve decided to call a public meeting fo r everybody that is sincerely concerned about the future o f Warm Springs. The meeting w ill be at the com m unity center, Wednesday, October 14, 1981, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., chili, fried bread and Koolaid .will be served. This meeting w ill be open to anybody and everybody. The door w ill not be closed to a n y b o d y , e v e r y b o d y is welcome. Please feel welcome to attend and express your I t ’s impossible to say exactly how many o f us who live in the Madras Ranchos would be homeless today i f it weren’t fo r the superb human effo rt put f o r t h th e a ft e r n o o n o f September 18. A raging grass fire, fanned by heavy, erratic winds, consumed sagebrush, leapt and exploded through Juniper trees and raced toward our houses at a terrifying speed. We extend a heartfelt thanks to all who worked to contain the fire. Responding in the m u tu a l a id e f f o r t , a n d deserving praise, were fire crews fro m N o rth U n it, M a d ra s, C u lv e r. C ro o k e d R iv e r, R e d m o n d , W a rm Springs and B IA fire control. N o r th U n it I r r ig a t io n D istrict dispatched a Cat to aid in the battle and the road crew w orking on South Adams D rive helped out w ith their grader. We deeply appreciate the care and concern demonstrated by “ the good neighbors” who were out there helping ward o ff flames w ith a garden hose while we hustled children in to the car and to safety. I t was a n ig h tm a r is h situation fo r everyone in the area— one we w o n ’t soon c o m m u n ity , th a t w o u ld promote conservative spending o f our resources. Another idea offered, was to form a Tribal U nion that would make sure th a t w h e n c o n s tr u c tio n companies come in to o u r com m unity to w ork fo r us, that these companies fu lfill their obligation to our community people by hiring and training our people. This union could also give support to all tribal employees, by giving us a place to tu r n to w hen tr ib a l employees are unjustly dealt with. (Editor’s Note: On the advice of tribal attorney Bob Nash, two paragraphs have been deleted because they contained libelous and slanderous material.) Hope you can attend, even i f its just out o f curiosity, come and listen, visit w ith friends, eat some ch ili and fried bread ... Y o u ’re all welcome. Sincerely, Bobby Eagleheart & others Members should be more involved To the people, W ho is this anonymous reliable source that is guiding our T rib a l Council? . The T rib a l Council have met behind “ closed doors” w ith th e ir a n o n ym o u s, re lia b le source and made decisions that affect the whole Tribe. I have requested the minutes from their meeting but they Law & Order meeting reset The Law and Order meeting w h ic h was scheduled fo r Monday, September 21 has been p o s tp o n e d u n til December 7, at which time the quarterly meeting w ill be held. Teamwork saved our homes To the editor, ideas and thoughts. This meeting is being called in an attempt to bring us all together to brainstorm and come up with ideas, as to how we, the people, can best go about finding solutions to m in im iz in g the unchecked waste o f m illions o f dollars that the Warm Springs people lose every year. It seems that Council doesn’t want to act, so it ’s up to the people to get together and come up w ith ways to protect and conserve o u r resources, using o u r timber, water and land wisely, so that the children w ill be able to enjoy and appreciate the beauty and abundance that our land has to offer. We can’t continue to use it all up, selfishly, ’.eaving nothing fo r our future generations ... This is all we have left, le t’s protect Warm Springs. Think Warm Springs! Some concerned comm unity people have already offered good thoughts, such as form ing a Citizens Committee, made up o f people that live in our f o r g e t . T h a n k s to th e tremendous team effort, none o f our homes were damaged. We don’t have to deal w ith repair w ork o r rebuilding w ith winter just around the corner. Again—Thank you, thank, thank you. Sincerely, Ray and Sandy Rangila Jim & Marily Sizemore, Sandy Rogers, The Bill Apgar family, Bob & Alice Finch, The Ray Welch family, Doug and Gabi Henry, Doug and Patti Lieuallen have refused/failed to mail them to me. The three top level managers met w ith T ribal Council and made some decisions, one o f which was to inform the Trib a l employees that beyond their (T rib e s ) c o n tr o l we are spending more than we are making?! O f course the Tribes had enough funds to back-pay the three managers and send the T rib a l Council and a chosen few to A laska in October — isn’t it about time the enrolled members get more in v o lv e d w ith the T rib a l Government and curtail the needless spending?
