The point system in B M X racing was initiated by the A B A which was formed to give national prominence to the sport. Under the rules o f the s a n c t io n , a r i d e r m a y accumulate points locally at his A B A sanctioned track and also on a national basis. A rider must be an A B A member to receive points although other rider can compete fo r trophies. The number o f points a rider has determines the class he is in. From novice, a rider would enter an expert class after competing in a number o f races and a c c u m u la tin g enough points. He would thereafter compete w ith experts in his or her age group. The district point distribu tio n is as follows: Novice-1st— 25 points; 2nd— 20 points; 3rd— 15 points; 4th— 10 points; 5th— 5 points. Little leaguers put up tough fight The Jefferson C ounty L ittle League came home fro m D istrict 5 Tournam ent on July 22, 23 and 24 in Boardman, Oregon w ith the experience o f playing in s tiff competion but unfortunately w ith no w inning tro p h ie s . The team was defeated in their firs t game against H ood R iver w ith a score o f 12-2.. According to parent team manager Uren Leonard, “ the kids played tough.” He said but errors in the outfield were costly. The score o f 2-2 fo r much o f the game but because o f several errors, the game was lost. The parental support given the L ittle League team was outstanding, Leonard says.
