PAGE 14 MARCH 30, 1979 Kah-Nee-Ta Pro-Am Kicks O ff Golf Season Locals were overshadowed by visitors at the annual Kah- Nee-Ta Pro-Am Golf Tourna ment held at the resort March 17- 18. The beginning of the golf season apparently caught the Kah-Nee-Ta Golf Association by surprise and prompted commit ments to get out and practice now that fair weather has arrived. Kah-Nee-Ta golf pro Jim Wilkinson, who managed to win $150 for hitting par on the 140 course, shrugged his shoulders and said, “At least it didn’t snow.” About 125 players walked the 18- hole course, which was well- groomed but still brown after the hard winter. Blue skies arid warm air put golfers’ mistakes into perspective the first day until clouds moved in. Then the push was on to make the chilly, windy circle around the course worthwhile with low scores. April will be a busy golf month starting with the Arrow head Club visitation on April 7-8 at Kah-Nee-Ta. The Yakima Nation Tournament is scheduled for April 14-15 at the Mt. Adams Golf Course. Back at Kah-Nee-Ta on April 21-22 there will be a two-man best ball tournament. Other upcoming events in clude a visitation by the Salem golf Club in May, the Teepee Chapman on Mother’s Day week end and the famed Fried Bread Open in June. The Op timist Club of Bend and Adidas will host two all-comers races on Sunday April 8th at 10 a.m. The event will be known as the Three Sisters Classic and the distances will be a «half marathon (13.1 miles) and a 10 kilometer (6.2 miles). Both courses will start and finish near Central Oregon Com munity College in Bend . . . and both courses will include some challenging hills. Dressing and shower facilities will be avail able to the runners at the college. The annual tournament will be held March 28-31 a t Satus, Washington. Tina is the daughter of Richard and Loretta Thompson. The sixteen year old was select ed queen based on her ticket sales. Tina was escorted to the ball by Hoss Scott.
