At Monday’s Oregon Profes sional Golf Association Pro-Am Tourney at Kah-Nee-Ta, Louie Pitt had amateur low gross with his two under par 68. This is just three points behind low pro Har vey Hixon of Cottage Grove. Second low team went to professional Bill “Woo-Woo” Wilkinson and amateurs Buford Johnson, Levi Bobb and Ray Shike. This winning combination scored 122,18 under par, on best ball. Kah-Nee-Ta’s golf pro Jim Wilkinson came back from Prineville Invitational Pro-Am Tournament July 7-9 with a sec- ond place out of 140 players. His score of 132 was two over par. Wilkinson said he fared pret ty well considering he “putted very poorly.” “I didn’t make many mis takes hitting the ball,” he said, noting that this has been his strong point all season. There is no better way to relax after a hard day’s work, than a good game of pool. This will put your mind at ease. Here are some hints to be- coming a good pool player. (1) Speak softly and carry a big stick; (2) Wear a good pair of moccasins or a pair of clogs, you will be able to sneek up on them or they can hear you coming a mile away; (3) Watch some guy’s style at the table, I don’t mean the dinner table; (4) Relax, It’s only a game (if you lose ydu will only be out a month’s salary); (5) If you scratch try flea powder, it usual ly works; (7) While shooting don’t be watching legs or low-cut shirts, just concentrate on the BALLS;” “YIKES” These were just a few important pointers on becoming a champion pool play er. If you are not familiar with the game, there are several versions. A most popular game is the straight 8-Ball. This is where one shoots at either the stripes or the solids and calls the pocked for the eight ball at the conclusion of the game. A lot of guys like to play for a dollar or two, but this is after they have played a few games and become experts. The main thing to keep in mind is rule No. 7, “And that’s to keep your mind on the BALLS.”
