PAGE 2 JULY a, 1*77 ~ Highway 26 Accidents Take Their Toll The accident which occur- ed at about 8:45 p.m., four miles west of Warm Springs, caused a giant traffic tie-up in both directions because the car and truck came to rest across the highway. Both Wilson and a passen ger, 20 year old Tim Freeburn, were alive and conscious when Warm Springs police, ambu lance, and fire department per sonnel arrived. The Wilson car was west bound when it veered into the oncoming lane striking the truck and trailer rig operated by John Hickey Bernard. Bernard pulled over to the extreme right edge of the highway in an attempt to avoid the accident. The Wilson car struck the truck on the left side, spinning her car around and pinning her in the vehicle. She sustained multiple in juries including all broken ribs on her left side. No one was injured in a rather dramatic-looking wreck on Highway 26 across from Alice’s Restaurant Tuesday, July 12. The driver of a salvage truck was westbound on High way 26 when he pulled to the right in an attempt to drive around Jimmy Florendo’s car which was signaling to turn into Alice’s Restaurant. The salvage truck which was hauling a car on top and towing a large, black van behind apparently got too far off the highway and onto the soft shoulder. The driver of the truck lost control of his vehicle which rolled off the edge of the highway, coming to rest in the ditch upside down and on top of the car he was hauling. The van being towed was also yanked in to the ditch causing extensive damage. Florendo’s car was slightly clipped on the fender when the salvage truck driver tried to maneuver around him. He was cited for passing illegally on the right.
