' Officers Named by DeMolay Mothers Club " Willamette Chapter, DeMolay Mothers Club, elected officers at its meeting Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Tom Armstrong. Mrs. Allan L. Stevens will be the new president when the club re lumes its meetings in the fall. Others named are Mrs. Don Doughton, vice president; Mrs. George B. Dillcy, secretary; and Mrs. Joseph C. Renault, treasurer. A special feature of the evening was a visit from a committee of members of Willamette Chapter, Order of DeMolay for Boys, who called not only to express appreci ation for the assistance given by the mothers group during the year but also to serve refreshments. Bernards, moderator, gave the invocation and was speaker at the meeting. He told of his visit to the famous shrine In Lourdes In France which he visited when he toured Europe several years ago. Mrs. R. A. DuBay, Portland, ACCW Council chairman on public relations, announced that the Na tional Council of Catholic Women will sponsor six institutes through out the United States during the summer months. The Far West Institute, which will be in Oregon this year for the first time, is scheduled August 26 lo 30, at Marylhurst College near Portland. All Catholic women are invited. The notional officers will be pres ent and in charge of the institute. The citation given to Mrs. Carl Smith of St. Paul when she was chosen as the Catholic Woman of tho Year of the Oregon City Dean ery, was on display at the meet ing. Mrs. Smith received the a ward at the ACCW convention in Portland during March. She was commended at the meeting for the outstanding work she is doing in civic and fraternal affairs. Toastmistress Club Honors Students Speech contest winners of South and North Salem High Schools were honored at the meeting of Salem Toastmistress Club at the Golden Pheasant Thursday eve ning. The students demonstrated the various types of speech .work that they do in their courses. Two of the group who won first place in state-wide contests gave their winning readings, Miss Don na btone in poetry and Bill Richtcr in a humorous number. Others participating, all of whom had won state awards, were Miss Kathy Miller, Ken Savage, Peter Krlckson, Miss Betti Dyke, Miss Colleen Nelson, Judson Smith and Miss Lynne Johnson. Parents of the students were guests of the club at the dinner. Miss Amanda Anderson, speech director for the schools, presided as toastmistress. MR. AND MRS. Scott Adams of Portland are being felicitated on the birth of a third son. The baby, born May i. at Emanuel Hospital, has been named James Edward. His brothers are Robert and Charles. Mother-Daughter Banquet at Church Annual mother-daughter banquet of the First Christian Church this week attracted more than 300 guests. The dinner served in the fellowship hail of the church was served by the Christian Men's Fellowship, under the direction of J. Al Head. Guests especially honored were introduced by Mrs. Leslie Morgan toastmistress. They included Mrs. Carrie Palmer as the oldest mother present, Mrs. Roberta Moss, the youngest; Mrs. Richard Synowski, mother of the youngest daughter; Mrs. Robert Cannon and Mrs. James Seeds, each with three daughters present; Mrs. Warren B. Becker with Mrs. Lee Thomas presiding for her final meeting for the current term. Discussion centered on plans lor the brunch to be given during the 1958 state convention of Beta Sig ma Phi in Salem for which the chapter will be responsible. Mc Allister, USN, son of Justice and Mrs. William McAllister of Salem and Medford. The wedding is planned for Aug ust 23, at LaMesa in the Presby terian Church there. The bride-to-be attended San Diego State College, majoring in elementary education. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and was a member of Celza, low er division women's service hon orary. Her father is director of guidance for San Diego Unified School District and writes a syn dicated column, "Parents' Cor ner." Ensign McAllister is a graduate of Harvard University, where he is a member of Pi Eta Pi, and is now stationed aboard the U.S.S. Kidd. Highland Mothers Name New Officers Officers for the next school year were named by Highland School Mothers Club at its meeting Thurs day afternoon at the school. Mrs. John Fessant was chosen as president: Mrs. John Hall, vice president; Mrs. Gerald Hall, sec retary; and Mrs. Lyle Hadley, treasurer. Further business of the meeting involved the adoption of an amend ed constitution. Hostesses for the meeting were second grade mothers. The group will resume meeting with the opening of school in the fall.
