These two es . capecs from London drawing - rooms are the most enthusiastic converts to the Western life in ' these here parts. When I last talked to Jean, she was slightly numbed by her hus- - band's announcement that they had bought 103 square miles of cattle country near Silver City, - N.M. His plan was to live there - all the time and come to Cali fornia only to make movies. "I'm not so sure how I'm going to like it," she said warily at the time. "But it's what Jimiry ..'(Granger's real name) wants, so I'll go along wilh it." That was a year ago. Since, the Grangers acquired American citi '' zenship, a baby and another Chewing 8 Wrigley'i Spearmint Gum S r.. N today. "The residential ranch or the working ranch?" They're the first couple I've met wh "His" and "Hers" ranches. The Arizona place is the resi dential ranch, she explained, and she is captivated by the life there. "At first I wondered what I would do," she said, "But I find the day isn't big enough to ac complish everything I want to do. There Is always some place to go by horseback or truck, some phase of ranching to watch. And if I want to relax, I can go rowing on one of our five lakes. "What do we do at night? We're too tired to do anything. We eat an enormous meal and go to bed. We don't even turn on the tele vision set." They employ five cowboys, she said, whose reaction to the British acting couple was interesting. "At first, they were standof fish," Jean said. "They didn't know quite what to think of Jim my. But when they saw him cut ting a steer out of the herd, their attitude changed entirely. They decided ho was all right."
